Product Description

Our hand-made Dinnie Rings are modeled directly from those found on the Rogue Replica Dinnie Stones used in sanctioned Strongman events and Rogue Record Breakers challenges.

First commissioned in 1998 by Gordon Dinnie–a distant descendant of the legendary Scottish Strongman Donald Dinnie–the Replica Stones have slightly different ring specs than the original 19th century Dinnie Stones, but they are far from modern in design. With their notably non-uniform sizing, the rings offer athletes a unique option for grip strength training, with a wide range of potential attachments and ring lifting challenges.

Rogue Dinnie Ring Set

Sold in pairs (one large + one small), Rogue’s Dinnie Rings are all individually hand-forged from American steel (5/8” diameter) by the experienced blacksmiths at Lockhart Ironworks in Logan, Ohio. Much of this traditional process stays true to the methods that would have been used to create the original Dinnie Rings in the 1800s. It also means that no two sets of rings are identical, and the dimensions and weight may vary slightly from set to set.

Approximate Dinnie Ring Sizes:

  • Large Ring: 7” x 6.5” / 1.65 LBS
  • Small Ring: 6.25” x 5.25” / 1.38 LBS

Customers can also choose to order some compatible accessories with their Dinnie Rings, including:

  • Grip Straps
  • Carabiner Set
  • Rogue Loading Pin

Key Features of Rogue’s Dinnie Rings

An Homage to Strength History

An Homage to Strength History

For generations, strength athletes from around the world have flocked to the small hamlet of Potarch in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, to try and lift two massive granite boulders named for the Strongman who made them famous. In 1860, as the legend goes, Donald Dinnie carried the stones—weighing a combined 733 LBS—barehanded across the 17 foot Potarch Bridge, using the stones’ affixed, uneven iron rings as his grips. The Dinnie Stones have continued to inspire Strongmen and Strongwomen ever since, with the modern Rogue Replica Stones seen routinely in major international competitions.

Hand-Forged at Lockhart Ironworks

Hand-Forged at Lockhart Ironworks

Each and every Rogue Dinnie Ring is individually hand-forged from American steel by professional blacksmiths Doug Lockhart and Danielle Russell at Lockhart Ironworks in Logan, Ohio. Doug brings more than 35 years of experience to the table in this field, and Danielle has made national news as a leading talent breaking down old gender barriers in the smithing trade. Because they use traditional methods, no two sets of Dinnie Rings are exactly the same, and the dimensions and weight may vary slightly from set to set. There are two general sizes to choose from, however: Large (7” x 6.5” / 1.65 LBS) and Small (6.25” x 5.25” / 1.38 LBS).

Bought for a Strongman Competition
We bought two pairs of these rings to use in a strongman comp we recently hosted. I know a lot of reviewers of thee rings say that they're not exact replicas, but if you're looking to just get in some training with something similar, these are great. Our competitiors loved the event and had nothing bad to say about the rings (other than how much their handshurt)

Not a replica
These trainers are not close to the stones. Light side off by 1.5” and heavy side 3.5” higher than the stones. Add to that - both rings for Rogue are identical size, which is not accurate either. If you are just training for fun, fine, but if you are training to actually lift the stones these are not what you want.

Nice training set
I have picked up the actual dinnies. To me the handles are not the same as what Rogue makes, they are similar as they are thin. But the actual Dinnie handles are smoother to me. Regardless if you are planning on lifting the Dinnie Stones you gonna need to get training handles, A barbell only builds the back strength. You need to build up the strength and pain tolerance in the hands/skin

Steel diameter not accurate (which is a problem)
They are hand forged rings, yes. However, with the actual dinnie stone rings there is a big stone and a small stone. An important detail is the big stone actually has a larger steel diameter for its ring. How important is this? It's actually pretty important. Once you get up over 400lbs in one hand, having 5/8 diameter steel is pretty narrow and will result in your skin probably being ripped. For me, it's like the parts between my fingerprint ridges start separating because there is too much weight on such a small area of skin. I have used the actual dinnie stone rings and is nowhere near as bad due to the increased diameter (3/4" I think?). I don't think this product deserves a good rating until the size of these rings is accurate. They area already hand forged.... How hard is it to use the right steel diameter? This is supposed to be a replica, so please replicate.

Awesome
I've never been to Scotland to try the Dinnie Stones but these are awesome. I use them to train as dinnie stones as well as on a cable as a different grip for push downs and use on a sled for rows, with chains for flyes and about a million other ways that aren't conventionally thought of with a ring.

Dinnie Rings
I ordered these and received them about 24 hours later - awesome shipping. But these are solid! They have that hand forged look to them, you can see how they were hammered down. Super happy with these! One of the most hardcore items available from Rogue.
