The AB-2 is for athletes seeking an added element of core-specific strengthening to complete their functional strength training protocol. Increased surface tension means that athletes have to apply more external force to generate proper movement.
The AB-2 added density foam to its original Abmat counterpart to improve posterior and anterior flexion and contraction. The lumbar region has more support, causing greater flexion while in supine position.

I weigh in at 229 and doing reverse crunches and leg lifts made the original to go flat. Well, no longer will I have to experience flat spots! This AB-2 mat holds up greatly! Review by KathyQualityI was so happy just to see that an ab mat existed when I started boot camp, then CrossFit in January. After I asked my trainer where to get my own, he directed me here. Since I have lower back issues, I chose to go with the AB-2 and it is awesome. The lumbar support is a noticeable difference from the regular ab mat (my trainer's mats are about a year old). Review by RossQualityI got this abmat for my home gym and I am amazed how much firmer these are than the abmats at my box. As opposed to the original abmat which provides support but still feels like a regular sit up. The ab-2 actually creates more of a rocking sensation when doing sit ups. Image using an trigger point roller except it's not as tall and doesn't move. Also for hand stand push ups (hspu) they are better because I found with the original abmats if I rested in the bottom position, they would compress, and I was basically just doing a regular hspu. I purchased this for home, and it is night-and-day difference between this ab-mat brand new and the original ab-mat four years old.
