Annie Kimiko Sakamoto

When it comes to CrossFit, Annie Sakamoto was practically in on the ground floor, training with founder Greg Glassman at the original CrossFit Santa Cruz way back in 2004. In the decade since, Sakamoto has left an indelible mark on the sport. Along with having her very own WOD named in her honor (the infamous “Annie”), she has excelled as both a trainer and competitor—highlighted by her memorable performance at the 2011 CrossFit Games. Competing as an individual at the event for the first time, Annie finished 9th overall and earned the “Spirit of the Games” award for her gutsy effort and positive attitude. She returned to the Games again in 2012, finishing 23rd.

As a 38 year-old mother of two, Sakamoto has continued to showcase her competitive fire with impact appearances at the NorCal Regionals in 2013 and 2014. Her passion and work ethic know few rivals in the sport, and she’s been the very model of what it means to be a Rogue athlete.
