Elyse Umeda was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, but her skills as a high school basketball player eventually took her to the opposite end of the U.S., where she’d become a four-year letter winner at Princeton and a member of the 2006 Ivy League championship team. After her playing days, Elyse served as an assistant basketball coach at Samford University before discovering and devoting her energy to training and coaching CrossFit.
The 5’2” Umeda finished 11th overall in her debut appearance at the CrossFit Games in 2010 and 23rd in 2011. In recent years, she has competed mostly in team events, leading Honolulu’s own CrossFit 808 team to a 10th place finish in 2014. Elyse has been a member of the Rogue Athlete Team since 2011.
