FAQs

YM-2.5A Monster Yoke

The Monster Yoke is the next step in the evolution of Rogue’s Y Series-- indebted to the yoke’s competitive strongman roots, but designed with a modern, multi-faceted weight-training regimen in mind. Made in America with an emphasis on maximum durability, the YM-2.5A features unshakable 3x3”, 11-gauge steel uprights and a weight capacity topping out at over 1,500 lbs. At 103”, the YM-2.5A is also nearly a foot taller than the YM-2 and 8” shorter than the YM-3, making it potentially the “just right” solution for a gym or training center trying to accommodate a broad range of athletes.

As with the entire Rogue family of yokes, the Monster Yoke offers a diverse range of training options beyond the traditional yoke carry or Zercher carry. The YM-2.5A’s skid feet and optional drag-friendly base make it ideal for yoke pulling and pushing exercises, while the provided Monster J-cups and fully adjustable crossmember enable easy transitions to bench press, squat, and pull-up or rings work.

Advantages of the YM-2.5A Monster Yoke:

  • 3x3” upright offers superior durability to 2x3” upright on standard Y-Series yoke
  • 103” height (90” max pull-up bar height) may be better suited to taller athletes than the YM-2, but still takes up less air space than the 111” YM-3

Specifications:

  • Made in Columbus, Ohio, USA
  • Height: 103”
  • Weight: 215 lbs.
  • Capacity: 1,500 lbs
  • 3x3” 11-gauge steel uprights

One Word: Solid

When Rogue talks about their Monster series and how it is built to handle anything you can throw at it, that's a complete understatement. This was the second piece of the Monster series that I have purchased (first was the Monster bench, which I also thoroughly recommend), and I have to say I'm extremely impressed. As always the craftsmanship is solid, but the durability of the yoke is insane. The first thing I noticed was the size of the bolts. They are huge! I had to go out and buy a bigger wrench from the store so that I could actually tighten them. The 3x3 11-gauge steel is actually bigger than a lot of the power racks I've used before. The included J Cups have UHMW plastic inserts and don't scratch up any of my bars at all.

I had been slowly building my garage gym and knew that the multi-use functionality of the Rogue Yokes vs squat stands made this an easy decision. With space at a premium, any piece of equipment that provides multiple uses make sense. I'm benching, squatting, and overhead pressing out of the yoke. This is in addition to using it as a yoke and doing atlas stones over the bar with it. Another nice feature is how I have the ability to turn around the crossmember and use the pull-up bar if I wanted. I already have a pull-up bar installed, but if you don't already have one, then that's a really good feature. I went with the pulling base, because I wanted the opportunity to pull it if I ever wanted to. It doesn't make any sense not to go with that option, since there is no extra cost involved. I haven't hooked up to my Spud strongman pulling harness yet, but I will soon. Also I went with the 43" crossmember because based upon my calculations; the 54", while much better for using as a yoke, would not have allowed me to use it as a squat stand.

Regarding the actual yoke usage aspect of the YM-2.5A, it is the best yoke I've used. I've used a couple different yokes from other manufacturers and none of them were of the same quality or durability. Most of the yokes that are on the market only list 750lbs as their capacity (similar to the Y-1), but this wouldn't work for me. My first time ever using a yoke, I worked up to 900lbs, so I knew that I needed a bigger capacity. My first time out with this yoke (my second time under with yoke), I worked up with 1000lbs and it handled it with no problems at all. The 1500 pound capacity of the YM-2.5A should be more than capable for a while. The crossmember size is perfect and feels really good, even at heavy weight, on the back. The 2" hole spacing means that the crossmember adjustments aren't super fine-tuned, but close enough not to make a huge difference. We had a couple people all using it at the same time and adjusting the crossmember height took no time at all. Initially the crossmember was a little tough to move (most likely due to the brand new powder coating), but now that's not an issue.

One thing I should mention regarding this versus the YM-2A, I went with the YM-2.5A so that I would make sure that have enough height to use the J Cups for squatting. And I'm glad I did, otherwise I wouldn't have had enough room. The adjustable yoke bar takes up quite a bit of room, 24 inches to be exact. At 6'7" the 93" YM-2A just wouldn't have left enough room for those J Cups. If you're shorter this doesn't matter, but us tall people have to worry about these things... that, ceiling fans, and door frames...

There is one downside and that was that it was shipped via freight, so I had to be at home to take the delivery from the semi truck. But then again, it says something when they have to use a semi to deliver your package.
