Rogue B&R Bar 2.0

The Classic, Bare Steel Burgener & Rippetoe Bar, Now Made in Columbus

Version 2.0 of the B&R Bar is built to the specifications of the bar’s original designers—strength training coaches Mike Burgener and Mark Rippetoe—with some enhancements from Rogue’s in-house manufacturing team. Along with custom-tailored dual knurl marks for Olympic lifting and powerlifting (including a passive center knurl), the bar now features a stronger 205 KSI shaft and an updated snap ring design. Quality bronze bushings produce a smooth, reliable spin, and the natural steel creates a great, old-school look and feel that few chrome/plated finishes can compete with.

The B&R 2.0 is a 20KG barbell with 16.25” of loadable sleeve length. Because of its versatility, it’s a great addition to a garage gym or a larger training facility or CrossFit box.

Please Note: Like any fine piece of machined steel, the bare steel on the B&R Bar will require some upkeep. Occasionally brushing the bar down with 3-in-1 oil or WD-40 will create a beautiful patina look. This is how bars were made for decades and it really does produce an unmatched feel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just about perfect This is a fantastic barbell. My primary use for it is powerlifting movements, not oly lifts, and it excels in every way for powerlifting. Which probably isn't terribly surprising given the names attached to the design of this bar. The knurling is spot on and the lack of whip is a huge help. It's also incredibly strong. My only issue is that the bar is listed as an olympic lifting bar in the description. That should probably be removed. Powerlifting? Absolutely. Weightlifting? Yep. Multipurpose? Sure. Olympic lifting? Nope. The lack of whip and the center knurling pretty much rule this out as an oly bar. If you're doing Starting Strength, Stronglifts, 5/3/1, PHAT, PPL, etc., then you will not be disappointed with this purchase.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for Oly Lifting Bought this bar about a year and a half ago and it has held up well. However, it's really not a good oly lifting bar. That center knurling is legit aggressive. Doing any behind the neck lowering of heavy weights is out of the question. In my opinion this bar is much better suited for squats and deads. Good bar but not really designed for what the description states. Everyone I've had try the bar on cleans ends up with raw clavicles.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great bar I have had this bar for about 6 months now. It is a great bar. The knurl is fantastic. I didn't realize how much difference the feel of bare steel would make until I bought this bar - it is the best feeling bar I've ever used. As for oxidation - I live on the coast and the bar did develop some rust, but I actually enjoy the upkeep - this bar will last forever and can be kept in great condition with a little TLC. I don't think I'd buy a bar with a coatings after owning this bar. For me the only very slight downside is the stiffness of the bar - I've used bars considered stiff before, but this thing is super stiff. When the specs say "no whip" they absolutely mean it when it comes to this bar. It doesn't feel like the bar bends at all, even with 500+lbs loaded on. It's also 2.75+ inches shorter than the Ohio Bar or the Ohio Power Bar which adds I think to the increased feeling of stiffness of the bar. I like stiff bars, but a touch of give would be nice imo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not too shabby I bought two of these. They are nice bars. I don't prefer one over the other.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best in bare steel Bought this bar darn near a year ago along with an R-3 rack. Ive been working out 3 times a week with it in my basement home gym. The knurl is excellent, never had to use chalk. Ive brushed and oiled it a few times and it still looks new. Nothing like the feel of old school bare steel in your hands. Good spin, rugged bar that will outlast yours truly. Out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good bar for the money I bought this bar in an equipment package from Rogue back in March and it has been absolutely excellent. I have been following Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe, and it works great for this. I have a basement gym setup in my house in Maine, and I have found the bare steel bar to be fine in this setting. You still need to make sure that you use some three in one oil and a wire brush on it once in a while to make sure it doesn't corrode. The knurling on this bar is absolutely fantastic. It absolutely blows away the bars at my local gym. It has incredible grip without being too aggressive. It is great for pulling exercises like deadlift. I have not used a bar with knurling this good before, and I think you would have to spend a lot more money to get as good. I will say that the spin of the bar is probably not that great. I have oiled it a couple of times to try to help it and it only improved it minimally. With the bar unloaded, I can spin the bar pretty hard and it probably makes two- three full rotations and feels like it is binding. Nothing compared to a good Olympic bar, but it will work for what I am doing. All things considered, it is a good bar for the money, especially considering the knurling. I don't think I would be able to find a bar better in this price range for what I am doing with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! a luxury! Received bar today and worked out with it. I have been using a cheap chrome-plate bar and underestimated how much of a difference a bar could possibly make.
