Event Implements
Part of the 2012 Games’ opening event at historic Camp Pendleton, each athlete had to follow up a 700-meter swim by riding one of these single-speed mountain bikes 8 kilometers across Pendleton’s hilly terrain to the next stage of the event.
As a unique test of abdominal strength and the hip flexors, athletes were challenged to perform sit-ups in the Rogue Abram Glute Ham Developer while simultaneously grabbing and throwing a 4LB medicine ball from a custom-designed ball-chute with each movement. The Ball Toss was the lead-in to the Triple Track event on Friday.
The bright zinc, 20kg Rogue Bar—featuring bronze bushings, dual knurl marks, and a 155,000 PSI tensile strength shaft-- was center stage throughout the weekend. The comparable Bella Bar was used by the female competitors, and as the Games’ official plates, thousands of pounds worth of Rogue’s dead-bounce Color LB Bumpers were also used.
On Day 2 of the games, competitors had to perform 8 medicine ball cleans and a 100-foot medicine ball carry using a 150LB MK D-Ball (80 LB for female competitors). Built with a durable HD black matte shell, the 14” diameter MKs are easier to grip than a lot of other larger medballs on the market and have an evenly distributed weight.
Made from 2x2” 11-gauge steel, Rogue’s durable Parallettes feature 1-1/2” diameter tubing and a grip-friendly black powder coating. Competitors had to complete 7 handstand push-ups on the parallettes during Friday night’s Medball-HSPU combined event.
Used for box jumps in Saturday’s “Chipper” event, the CNC-machined Rogue Games Box offers three solid height options in one design. For the Games, men jumped at the 24” height, and women at 20”.
Inspired by similar events from firefighter competitions, the Double Banger added a new test of functional, rotational power production by having the competitors swing a long-handled sledgehammer / mallet to push a heavyweight brick across a sliding track. Athletes had to swing the hammer from three different angles during the event, and on two different levels of track.
The 2012 Games also saw the debut of the instantly legendary Big Bob, a giant six-man power sled used in the team competition. This monster of a sled was built largely by cobbling together elements from other Rogue equipment (including the Abram GHD, Dog Sled, and Rogue Rings), then connecting it all to massive steel pontoons.
Designed and built by Rogue exclusively for the Games, each end of this yoke had a ring strap and loading pin hanging from it, carrying a combined 370 LBS in plates (230 LBS for women). With the weight able to swing from side to side, the yoke carry proved a major test of balance and coordination, as well as endurance.
