Product Description

The MG-4C is the latest evolution of the Rogue specialty multi-grip barbell. Available here with a 3.5” cambered steel frame (a flat frame version is sold separately), this patent pending design now comes standard with three distinct sets of adjustable handles: straight, 16-degree angle, and 20-degree angle.

All handles measure 28.5mm in diameter and include our premium Proprietary Matte Black finish and the same precision knurl pattern as our Ohio Bars. They can be attached to the frame of the MG-4C Bar at 1-inch intervals, meaning that a set of handles can be functionally spaced anywhere from a minimum of 6” to a maximum of 26” apart. This enables athletes to customize their bar for multiple movements—from close grip presses and triceps work to biomechanically optimized grips at shoulder-width and beyond. Better still, our durable Proprietary Matte Black finish doesn’t add any thickness when applied, so the feel of the handles is left exactly as it was straight out of the lathe.

The MG-4C’s friction welded sleeves also have a Proprietary Matte Black finish, and are built with the same internal components as our standard barbells, rotating smoothly on shafts made from the same stainless steel as our power bars. Each sleeve offers 15.5” of loadable length, and with a standard sleeve spacing of 51.5”, the MG-4C is conveniently rackable on any Rogue power rack, squat stand, rig, or bench.

The 41” frame portion of the bar is built from 1.5” x 1.5” 11-gauge steel tubing with 1/4” plates, a machined socket, and a Texture Black powder coat finish. The cambered shape with 3.5” of drop allows for a greater range of motion when using the outer handles on certain movements (such as bench or rows), and also helps to improve stability, as the bar’s center of mass–relative to hand placement–is lower.

The sleeves are assembled to the shafts by our barbell assembly team, but to save on shipping costs, we developed a unique interlocking taper design that allows for easy assembly with a single nut using the included wrench. The joint created by this interlocking taper is every bit as strong as a weld, and will hold up to whatever an athlete throws at it. Even after the nut is removed, it takes a lot of force with a mallet to free the shaft from the socket.

Key Features of the MG-4 Cambered Multi-Grip Bar

1

Adjustable Knurled Handles

The MG-4C comes standard with (6) removable knurled grip handles (28.5mm outside diameter) in a Proprietary Matte Black finish. With their threaded design, these handles can be positioned anywhere along the bar’s 41” long frame, using the included allen keys for attachment. Functional spacing options range from a minimum or 6” to a max of 26”. Keep in mind, the ideal biomechanical angle for an efficient, safe lift expands as the handles move further apart. Rogue recommends the following handle spacing for Angled Handles when pressing:

20-degree: 26" or 22" spacing
16 degree: 18" or 14" spacing
Straight: 10" or 6" spacing

Additional configurations may work for other movements (ex. many athletes prefer closely spaced, angled handles for skull crushers).

Rackable Sleeves

Offering a standard loadable length of 15.5”, the sleeves on the MG-4C are built using the same construction methods and components as our Rogue Power Bar, resulting in a consistent, smooth rotation. The standard sleeve spacing (51.5”) makes the bar conveniently rackable on most standard rigs/racks, and the Proprietary Matte Black finish helps eliminate paint chipping and maximizes long-term corrosion resistance.
Please Note: The sleeve assemblies ship disconnected from the frame and can be attached using the included 1.5” Monster Wrench. They can also be removed and replaced, but removal will require additional tools (such as a rubber mallet) and a means of securing the frame in place.

Cambered Frame

The cambered 41” frame has a depth of 3.5” and is built from 1.5” x 1.5” 11-gauge steel tubing with 1/4” laser-cut plates and a machined socket. Mounting holes for the handles are 1” on center all along the sides, and the frame is finished in a Texture Black powder coat. The cambered shape allows for a greater range of motion when using the outer handles on certain movements (such as bench or rows), and also helps to improve stability and reduce wobbling, as the bar’s center of mass–relative to hand placement–is lower.

Interlocking Taper Design and Machined Nut

The shaft of the sleeve connects to the frame using an interlocking taper; a staple of the machine tool industry for more than a century. The conical shape of the shaft is inserted into a conical cylinder that, when tightened with the machined hex nut, creates an extremely rigid joint.

Great bar
I was wary of the wobble with this bar after reading other reviews. Yes, it was a bit unstable the first time or two I used it. Funny how adaptation works, the more I used it the more stable it got. I don't think the bar adapted to me. That said, I bought the bar to use as an accessory lift to regular bench pressing, I don't load it heavy, use it for lighter high rep sets.. In that capacity I love it. Also, the bar arrives in bomb proof packaging and it's easy to put together. Changing handle position with the straight handles is about a 90-120 second operation with the allen wrenches included with the bar, that is it isn't an issue.

32mm Straight Handles Should Be Standard
Purchased the all stainless steel version of this bar with extra 32mm stainless 16 and 20 degree handle pairs. The bar still arrived with 28mm straight handles, not matching the diameter of the 32mm angled handles. There needs to be a better option for 32mm Straight Handles than charging $70 extra and having an unused set of 28mm straight handles. This is wasteful and an unnecessary added expense to the customer on an already expensive bar. I'm not sure who thought 28mm handles were a good default diameter for a pressing bar. They seem to have changed this on the MG-4CN, but should have fixed the issue here too.

Best multi grip bar available
This is the best cambered bar you can buy. Although it can be a little pricey should you purchase multiple extra handles, the versatility is unmatched. I owned the kabuki bar which is a great bar but the thick grips killed my wrists. Having the same grips that are on my straight bar works best for me. Some people complain about the width of the bar but I find it to be a nonissue. Another great made in the USA offering by Rogue.

extremely unbalanced
I bought this a few months ago and tried to give it a chance but it is just poorly designed. Its extremely unbalanced to the point of danger in certain workouts.

Great Bar
I was about exchange this bar for the narrow version prior to opening the packaging and rogue sent me the returning instructions with no problem. I then decided to open the packing and see for myself why the narrow one "is so much better" Like I read on reviews and saw on YouTube videos. I came to realize after a few different workouts that I really like this bar and decided to keep it. No problem with balancing, width, or length of the bar what so ever and very well made. The only reason it got 4 stars and not 5 is because I was under the impression that since I ordered a few more grips in 32mm stainless, that rogue would include a 32mm grip instead of the 28mm that the bar originally comes with. So I now have 2 28mm grips as paper weight.

Great Tool
I bought this in July and got it near the end of it. I had to have my bar replaced as one of the sleeves would not go in all the way but Rogue made things right. Overall this bar is pretty great. I got the short sleeves which I highly recommend. I also got one of each handle so I wont need to move them around. Some people say it wobbles but I have not had any issues with stability on it and I have gone close to 300# with no issue. It may be an issue if you have a smaller hand or are off center.

Poorly design bar despite a great look
I am a huge fan of Rogue and dozens of their products . I have always been extremely pleased by their stellar products. I wish it was the case here as well… I have bought this bar a few weeks ago and am disappointed about it. While it is a great looking bar, super easy to assemble, with big sturdy hardware, the bar is ultimately extremely unstable and wobble a LOT, making the heavy lifts feel unsafe. Surely, the new narrow version might correct this pain points, making the « wide/basic » version unnecessary.

Our MG-4C matches the dims of the multi-grip bars we've offered for 10 years. We are growing our offering and are coming out with different chassis options. We are happy to extend an exchange for the Narrow frame.

I think it's great, but...be careful.
I used MG-23 for 2 years. And I was excited to announce the updated MG-4C. Short sleeves, rotating sleeves, moving handles. Since I don't live in the US, the shipping and shipping costs are very high, so it cost me 1140$, but I ordered it on June 28th. I also purchased additional 16 and 20 degree handles, but 20 degrees did not fit well. Even if the mounting position is changed, the screw cannot be tightened halfway. Whether it's the handle, the screws, or the precision of the frame... I don't know. MG-4CN was released on July 19th. There was no 32mm grip handle option when I bought it. If only they were released at the same time. . I was so disappointed. Considering the price and performance balance, I do not recommend this product. If the price is the same, I think MG-4CN is better than this product. It's compact and has a thick handle. If it were me now, I would buy the MG-4CN. I understand why the past MULTI GRIP, MG-1, MG-2, and MG-3 were 31.75 mm. I understand that it is necessary and important for stability. I hope the ROGUE team will consider replacing the frame and handlebars.
