How to Size your Rope

We follow two basic principles with regard to jump rope length; The first is “static” rope length. That’s the actual length of a rope not in motion. The second is “dynamic” rope length. That’s the rope in motion where the athlete’s mechanics can influence the effective length of the rope.

Our sizing chart will attempt to guide you to an ideal “static” rope length. This rope length is intended to fit a specific posture while jumping. That posture can be described as follows. Starting with your anchor point, which is your hand placement. Hands should be positioned at your midline axis and right at your frontal plain. Your hands can slide in or out along this axis depending on your shoulder’s external rotational flexibility.

Your elbows should be relaxed down by your side with your shoulders as disengaged as possible. Again external rotational flexibility may dictate whether your elbows need to pull backwards in order to keep your hands from shifting forward of your frontal plain. Once we have your anchor point isolated at your midline axis we then look for your jump rope to have an even turnover passing over head and in front of the toes with a minimum of 12" clearance at both points.

If we’ve met all of those standards then we’ve placed the athlete in the best possible position to have balance and symmetry between their body and their rope. It will now only depend on the athlete’s efficiency of mechanics to dictate their “dynamic” rope length

When viewing the sizing chart (see Images & Videos tab) please locate your height while wearing your normal work out shoes. Then see the indicated rope length recommended for that height. That is the measurement you would select when purchasing your Custom Rx Jump Rope.

Recommend - RX Custom Jump Cable

Five Cable Choices To Cover All Work Capacities:

Hyper 1.3 ounces - Aircraft grade cable with PVC coating. Our lightest offering weighing only 1.3 ounces for a 9' length (excluding handles). Most comparable to traditional speed cables. The PVC coating does not retain memory and therefore uncoils nicely. This cable produces the fastest cycle rate therefor the athlete must be extremely proficient at double unders. Recommended for advanced jumpers who can already turn 75+ double unders.

Ultra 1.8 ounces - Aircraft grade cable with PVC coating. Our second lightest cable weighing 1.8 ounces for a 9' length (excluding handles). The Ultra 1.8 is considered our “hybrid speed cable” due to its light nature while offering more feedback to the athlete. The increased resistance allows the athlete to turn the Ultra 1.8 cable at a slightly slower cycle rate than the Hyper 1.3 yet triple unders are still plentiful. Recommended for advanced jumpers who can already turn 60+ double unders.

Elite 2.6 ounces - Aircraft grade cable with PVC coating. Our mid range weighted cable weighing 2.6 ounces for a 9' length (excluding handles). Our most all around utility cable offering a nice blend of light weight with increased feedback and response while it’s rigidity maintains a nice “horse shoe” shape while in motion. Recommended for jumpers who can already turn 50+ double unders.

Buff 3.4 ounces - Aircraft grade cable with PVC coating. Our third heaviest cable weighing 3.4 ounces per 9' length (excluding handles). Our Dual Threat cable which provides tremendous feedback allowing the athlete to jump with a broader range of tempos from very slow to super fast. Ideal for beginners to gain a better feel for timing while jumping at slower tempos. Also a fantastic training cable for advanced jumpers looking for greater resistance and intensity in their training.

Beast 4.1 ounces - Aircraft grade cable with PVC coating. Currently our heaviest cable weighing 4.1 ounces per 9' length (excluding handles). Our bruiser cable that provides the pain that masochist seek in their high intensity training. Also great for bigger, stronger athletes needing more resistance and feedback than most typical jump ropes provide.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from While not indestructible, still a great rope I bought this rope because of COVID-19, to work on my double unders while I'm at home and away from the gym. This rope is the one I use at my gym, and I have been really pleased with how its weight and feedback has made it possible for me to learn DUs. (Using it, I am up to 50 in a row; I wasn't able to do a single one when I started.) So I have zero complaints about the performance of the rope itself. That said, if you use it outside on pavement, it doesn't hold up well. I wouldn't call it a durable rope when compared to other ropes that I have used, but if you don't mind replacing an expensive rope every few months, it's a great option for a beginner like me. My other ropes, like my Loma rope, are more durable but are lighter and harder for a beginner to use because they provide less feedback. I guess it's a trade-off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Jump Rope! My Crossfit Gym uses them for the house ropes, but I wanted a bit different setup. It is ready to go in seconds and the handy case makes it easy to store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Versatile Rope I bought this rope about a month ago needing to get a different rope to help with my double unders training/practice. My current rope was a bit too thin and too fast to get the timing down. The RX Custom is great and versatile rope. I was able to get a slightly heavier rope to work on said timing. I don't have enough uses yet, but everything seems to be of a high quality that will last. I am 5'6 and the recommendation of the 8'6" rope length is perfect. I look forward to simply buying one of the thinner ropes once I progress enough.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 70 DU's Later... I originally bought one of the heavier (2.3oz, I think) RX ropes and it was very helpful to learn the timing and the swing of Double Unders, although the whips hurt like heck! I then bought the 1.8oz and after 7 weeks, I have worn through the casing from practicing 3-5x a week, 15 - 30 minutes a session. 7 Weeks into my practice, I am hitting 50's more often, almost daily and my high is a surprising 70! I do wish they lasted longer, but I am using it pretty heavily, hence the 4-star review. But once you figure them out, I'm sticking with what is working and that's why I'm re-ordering 2 more cables for the 1.8oz rope.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2.6oz is fantastic for establishing double unders I was between the 3.2 and 2.6oz ropes and couldn't decide what would be a better fit for aiding me in stringing together more than 5 double unders. I ended up going with the 2.6 and I'm so happy I did. I've now worked my way up to 15 unbroken DUs and love the lighter weight rope that will be easier to eventually transition to even lighter. The grips are lightweight as well and I like the width-- they form to your hand. I'm 5'1" and followed the cable length suggestion on the website based on my height; 8' cable length is perfect.
