Rogue AIR Rhino

AIR RESISTANCE STRENGTH TRAINING

Developed from the same uncompromising design philosophy as the Echo cardio line, the Rogue Air Rhino introduces a new element in resistance training. Originally conceived in 2018, this idea evolved through multiple concepts, ultimately resulting in this final design based on the Rogue Rhino Belt Squat that utilizes a flywheel similar to the Rogue Echo Rower and Rogue Echo SKI. Anchored to a heavy duty steel and aluminum platform, the Air Rhino is a user powered engine providing velocity dependent resistance that scales with your effort. The harder you pull, the more it fights back. The Air Rhino supports a wide range of movements, to include, belt squats, deadlifts, seated rows, upright rows, curls, presses and more.

Built for Power, Speed, and Recovery

The Air Rhino features a precision-engineered, low-inertia flywheel designed for high-force output. Unlike traditional flywheels that carry speed between reps, it slows significantly after each pull to eliminate momentum and emphasize raw force production. This shifts the focus from cardiovascular rhythm to a dedicated strength tool built for maximum explosive intent, while still remaining accessible for applications ranging from clinical rehabilitation to high-intensity strength training. Resistance is further refined through a continuous damper with a stepless sliding scale, offering precise adjustability. Combined with a concentric-only resistance system, the Air Rhino is also ideal for high-frequency training, rehab, and speed work, minimizing muscle damage and supporting faster recovery between sessions.

Engaging Rhino Mode turns your next reps into a true strength-focused workout. This patent pending system uses magnetic resistance to create a smooth but powerful drag on the flywheel, simulating the feel of moving heavy weight without the need for physical contact between parts. As you pull harder and move faster, the resistance increases, allowing the machine to reach up to 1,200 pounds of peak output. Rhino Mode pushes your explosiveness by matching your effort with strong, controlled resistance, delivering the feel of heavy lifting with a smoother, safer training experience.

Built for Power, Speed, and Recovery

The Rogue Air Rhino uses a dynamic flywheel resistance system that responds directly to your effort. The harder and faster you pull, the greater the resistance, creating an experience that rewards explosive intent while reducing recovery time between training sessions.

Concentric-Only Resistance

The Air Rhino applies resistance only during the lifting phase of each repetition. Once you finish the pull, the resistance disappears, allowing you to return to the starting position without controlling a heavy load.

  • Train Safer – Without an eccentric load, there is no heavy weight to catch or lower under fatigue. If you reach failure, simply release the handle and the resistance stops immediately.
  • Develop Explosive Power – With no stretch reflex to rely on, every repetition demands maximum intent from the start, reinforcing rapid force production.
  • Recover Faster – Removing the eccentric phase significantly reduces muscle soreness, allowing for more frequent high-intensity training.
  • Target Sticking Points – Start from virtually any position in the range of motion to isolate weak points without the need for spotter arms, pins, or additional equipment.

Dynamic, Speed-Dependent Resistance

Resistance automatically adjusts to your output. Pull harder, and the Air Rhino pushes back with more resistance. Every repetition adapts to your current strength and effort, making the machine equally effective for explosive power work, heavy strength training, conditioning, and injury rehabilitation.

Quick Release Engagement Lever

Standard belt squats often force athletes to start from a compromised, deep squat position. The Air Rhino solves this with the quick release engagement lever that allows you to pull the cable to your desired height with minimal resistance, enabling you to secure your belt or attachments while standing upright. Once you are locked in, simply flip the lever and begin your set. Combined with our concentric only design, this removes unnecessary setup time and lets you target specific sticking points with greater precision.

The Patent Pending Contoured Squat Belt

Heavy loading should not mean discomfort. The Air Rhino includes a re-engineered patent pending contour belt designed to solve the pinch common in traditional belt squats. Featuring a specialized arch that clears the thighs at the bottom of the movement, it eliminates digging during deep repetitions and distributes massive loads evenly across the hips. With multiple attachment points, you can customize the pull angle for any athlete’s stance or size.

Built to Move

Despite its industrial grade build, the Air Rhino remains mobile. The tilt and go transport system features ergonomic front pocket handles and large diameter rear turf tires. These oversized wheels glide over virtually any surface without snagging, allowing a single person to reposition the unit in seconds. Integrated foot placement indicators and telescoping stability handles ensure that once the machine is in place, you can lock in your stance and start training immediately.

LCD Console with Bluetooth and ANT+ Compatibility

The Rogue Air Rhino is equipped with a 4.7" backlit LCD console designed specifically for strength training. In addition to tracking familiar performance metrics like watts, calories, and distance, the Air Rhino introduces force-based metrics to measure strength output. Whether you're training for personal progress or competing in official XENOM™ events, the console delivers accurate, consistent performance data every workout.

Strength-Focused Performance Metrics

  • Average Force – Measures the average force applied throughout each repetition. Think of it as a barbell equivalent, making it easy to benchmark and track strength progress over time.
  • Force Over Time – Measures cumulative force across each rep and the entire workout, rewarding both how hard and how long you pull.
  • Watts – Tracks power output per repetition and across the full workout.
  • Calories – Calculates total work performed, similar to other flywheel-based machines.
  • Distance – Measures the actual length of rope pulled on every repetition and throughout the workout.

Console Features

  • Pre-programmed workouts plus fully customizable workout modes
  • Stores previous workout history with onboard memory
  • Competition-ready accuracy for consistent performance tracking
  • 4.7" backlit LCD display
  • Bluetooth and ANT+ compatible
  • OTA (Over-the-Air) software updates through the Rogue App
  • Self-generating power with D-cell battery backup
  • Integrated smartphone & tablet holder holds devices with up to a 8.5” width

High-Strength Synthetic Cord

At the core of the Air Rhino's drive system is a high-strength synthetic cord engineered to withstand extreme, repetitive loads. Advanced material design makes this synthetic cord 25% stronger than a steel cable of the exact same diameter, ensuring zero compromise in safety or reliability during maximum-effort pulls.

Additionally, the system provides a massive 98 inches of cord travel length, easily accommodating athletes of all sizes and allowing sufficient extension for any movement, from deep belt squats and heavy deadlifts to full-range overhead presses.

OFFICIAL EQUIPMENT SUPPLIER

The Rogue Air Rhino is the official machine used for Event 007 – 5RM Rhino Pull at every XENOM™ competition. Known as the Decathlon of Fitness™, XENOM™ is a stadium-scale, two-day competition consisting of 10 events that measure total human performance through a standardized, points-based scoring system. By testing athletes across every major domain of fitness, XENOM™ establishes the first repeatable global benchmark for high-performance athletes.

XENOM™ MODE

The Air Rhino features a dedicated XENOM™ mode that replicates the official competition settings. Set the damper to MAX, enable RHINO MODE, and select XENOM on the monitor. Once you begin your first pull, you'll have 30 seconds to complete five deadlift reps, just as you would in competition.

Using real-time stroke analysis and advanced motion algorithms, the Air Rhino intelligently validates each repetition by evaluating multiple parameters, including a minimum stroke length. It automatically rejects incomplete reps so they do not contribute to Average Power calculations. Additionally, the system supports future firmware updates to further refine detection accuracy and adapt to evolving competition standards.

Revolutionary!
I rarely write product reviews, but after spending time with the Rogue Air Rhino, I felt this machine deserved one. This isn't a review after an hour of use. In fact, my opinion changed significantly after my first couple of workouts. The first thing I noticed was the quality. The Air Rhino is unmistakably a Rogue product. The materials, welds, finish, and overall construction are exactly what I expected from Rogue—commercial grade and built to last. Interestingly, I didn't form an immediate opinion about the machine itself. The Air Rhino is a revolutionary concept, and I knew I would need to experiment with it before deciding whether I truly liked it. It took me two full workouts before everything started to click. Assembly was straightforward. I'm accustomed to assembling equipment, so I didn't find it difficult. My only suggestion would be to print the instructions in a larger font to make them easier to read. The published dimensions are accurate. Buyers should expect it to occupy roughly the same floor space as a squat rack. One pleasant surprise is how easy it is to move around my gym. That mobility has allowed me to integrate it with equipment I already own. I can roll the platform underneath my pull-up bar, and I even place my freestanding dip station directly on top of the platform. Instead of becoming another machine that occupies permanent floor space, it has become a versatile training platform. I originally bought the Air Rhino because I believed in the concept. What I didn't realize was just how different it is from traditional resistance training. After my second workout, I stopped thinking about the machine and started thinking differently about resistance itself. I have back arthritis, a repaired quadriceps tendon, and previous shoulder surgery. Those injuries have changed the way I train. My goal isn't to see how much weight I can put on a bar. My goal is to train as hard as possible while protecting the body that has to carry me for the next several decades. This is where the Air Rhino completely changed my expectations. For the first time in years, I can safely exert maximum effort without worrying that my shoulder, knee, or back will be the limiting factor. The user is completely in control of the resistance. Rogue mentions this in their product description, but I don't think they emphasize it nearly enough. Every set has what I call a Goldilocks quality. Not too easy. Not too hard. It's entirely up to the user to make every set exactly right. My definition of maximum effort is simple: Move through the exercise with as much force as possible. The Air Rhino responds to that effort. It fights you just as hard as you fight it. People often discuss the importance of time under tension. With the Air Rhino, you create exactly as much tension as you're willing to produce. Finish a repetition, return quickly to the starting position, and immediately begin the next rep. The resistance is always there waiting for you. That creates an entirely different training experience than simply moving a predetermined amount of weight. The included belt is excellent. It's comfortable, distributes the load well, and never became something I had to think about during training. It even fit my wife, who is much smaller than I am, without any issues. I don't see one mode as better than the other. Each has a purpose. For me, Rhino Mode is roughly: • 80% muscular training • 20% cardiovascular demand Air Mode feels more like: • 50% muscular training • 50% cardiovascular conditioning I use Rhino Mode when my priority is maximizing muscular effort. I use Air Mode for exercises that don't require extremely heavy resistance but benefit from continuous movement and elevated heart rate. Both belong in the same workout. The resistance is exceptionally smooth. Rather than trying to replace heavy barbells, I think it shines on exercises where controlled resistance produces better results than simply adding more plates. I've especially enjoyed using it for: • Upright rows • Pullovers while lying on a flat bench • Triceps extensions while lying on a flat bench One aspect I don't think receives enough attention is that Air Mode naturally combines strength training with cardiovascular conditioning. I actually believe this style of training is underexplored, and I plan to incorporate much more of it into my workouts. One thing I've learned is that the Air Rhino rewards experimentation. I wanted better clearance for pressing movements, so I connected a multi-hole cable spreader to the Air Rhino, attached two 39-inch cable extensions to the outer holes, and then connected those to a dual-handle exercise bar. That simple setup transformed both my standing military press and my incline bench press. It convinced me that owners shouldn't be afraid to experiment with cable attachments and configurations. There's probably far more capability built into this machine than most people will discover during their first few weeks. This may be my favorite part of owning the Air Rhino. My body simply feels better. It's that simple. I finish my workouts knowing I gave every set everything I had. Yet I don't have the lingering joint fatigue that normally follows hard training. I don't have the body soreness that slows me down throughout the rest of the day. I feel like I'm getting the training stimulus without paying as much of the recovery penalty. For someone with previous injuries who still wants to train at a high level, that's incredibly valuable. Another benefit I didn't anticipate is the amount of time saved. With traditional resistance training, you're constantly loading plates, removing plates, changing weights, and adjusting between exercises. With the Air Rhino, the resistance is already there. You simply decide how much effort you're going to give. That keeps workouts moving and allows you to spend more time training and less time changing equipment. I don't have many criticisms, but I do have a few suggestions. • Include a wider variety of cable attachments or offer a recommended accessory package. • Produce a much larger library of exercise demonstrations, especially showcasing creative setups and advanced attachment combinations. • Consider highlighting the philosophy of the machine—not just its features. The real value isn't the hardware; it's the unique way the resistance adapts to the user's effort. If you're looking for a machine that simply replaces barbells or cable stacks, you may miss what makes the Air Rhino special. It's not a replacement. It's a different way to train. For younger lifters chasing maximum numbers on a barbell, that distinction may not matter. For anyone who wants to build strength, improve conditioning, protect their joints, and continue training hard for decades, I think the Air Rhino deserves serious consideration. The biggest compliment I can give it is this: I no longer feel like my joints determine how hard I can train. My muscles do. That's something I haven't been able to say in a long time. Overall Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) Who I recommend it for: • Lifters recovering from injuries. • Athletes who want to combine strength and conditioning. • Adults over 40 who still want to train at a very high level. • Home gym owners who value versatility and efficient workouts. I wouldn't describe the Air Rhino as just another piece of gym equipment. I would describe it as a new training system—one that has changed how I think about resistance, effort, and long-term fitness.

Game Changer
I bought this as part of the first release. I've used a variety of belt squats (Exxentric, Voltra, Kratos, the OG Rogue Rhino, Pit Shark), and this is hands-down my favorite. While the footprint is a bit bigger than I would like, it has more than made up for it with the convenience. The unit is incredibly quick to set up when you start working out, and you can rapidly transition from squats to deadlifts, and from light to heavy in seconds. As a dad with limited time to work out (and very limited space to set up weights), I can get a decent leg workout in about 15 minutes. If I need a little more eccentric work, I can easily toss in a set of strongman sandbag exercises or a set of RDLs. What I have found most surprising about the unit is how versatile it is, particularly in terms of speed and power work. Under ideal circumstances, I don't think I could safely work on full ROM jump squats to failure with a barbell, much less be able to do a drop set of them with steadily decreasing weight. With the air rhino, it's basically the default setting - just keep jumping until you run out of gas. There are some small drawbacks. The assembly was a bit of a pain, particularly installing the side legs and back crossbar, which could have benefited from larger countersinks around the pilot holes so that the pieces locked in together better before the screws went in. The unit is a bit wider and deeper than it really needs to be for most people. Until Rogue comes out with a version with a direct drive motor underneath, this is the best game in town.
Yes, I recommend this product

Great concept. Horrible design.
Crossbar does not line up. Not able to use all the hardware supplied. This was not a well thought out design.

Needs a different design to put together.
The instructions to put this together are terrible. It is extremely difficult to put together and the rope mechanism that attaches to the flywheel constantly slips off. The design needs to be reworked.
