MobilityWOD Battlestar™

Introducing the newest addition to the line of mobility tools to make you a better athlete.

Battlestar Equation

If a steam roller, wolverine and a chain saw got together and had a baby, the BattleStar™ would be born. The Gemini and Super Nova have been great for several functions including tissue shearing and detailed work, but we were missing a way of creating larger global shear and experiencing a little more "grippy" action.

Most of the rollers out on the market today are just tubes with foam over them and they do a lot of pressing and rolling of tissues. The BattleStar™ is made from Urethane which allows us to create a ton of grip and causes a lot more shear in the joint tissues. Utilizing the BattleStar™ cradle allows us to do a little more detailed work where we can roll the body back and forth without having the roller change underneath. This also allows us to have a little more leverage and be more detailed in the hip and larger muscle groups.

The Big BattleStar™ was the original size, but we found that we wanted a more acute pressure for some of our tissues so we developed the Little BattleStar™. The Little BattleStar™ feels much more like a barbell but with better grip and better adhesion quality.

Battle Saw

Remember how you freaked out in pure stoke when you first found out that Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia were long lost siblings? Well it turns out that the revolutionary, Jedi level BattleStar™ had a long lost sister too, the Battle Saw, and she is a total badass.

Eventually, everyone comes to realize that tubes of foam (foam rollers) are at best good for beginners, and ultimately need to be relegated back to the kiddie pool. We met the needs of these athletes with our pro-level BattleStar™ system. Our top athletes noticed the improvements in treatment too, and we've seen the BattleStar™ embraced at every level of sport and performance, from the top of the UFC, to the college weight room, to the sidelines of the NFL, to the kids holding it down in the most austere combat environments.

Remember though, we are users too. And since we fight for the users, we realized we still wanted a slightly different stimulus in the BattleStar™ environment. Enter the Battle Saw. We set out to create a roller that allowed us to use less pressure, but had better fascial/connective tissue penetration. If the original BattleStar™ is a sledge hammer-wolverine , then the Battle Saw is a ballerina honey badger.

The evil empire of tacked-down, gristled warriors is no match for the united family of the BattleStar™ and Battle Saw.

X-Wing Handles

Snap the X-Wing Handles onto either BattleStar™ or the Battle Saw and you have the best stick on the planet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow, this thing is amazing I've been using the Battlestar for the last few months in my home gym and my firehouse. I can say that this thing is one of my favorite Mobilty tools. I am anxiously awaiting the battlesaw to arrive at my door.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best "Roller" Ever I have regular tightness in my calves and high hamstrings. Nothing can compare with the Battlestar when it comes to ungluing those tissues. The smaller spindle is definitely my favorite and makes getting into the high ham much each. The large one works great for the quads a IT band. I also really like the stationary cradle, somehow this makes working on problem areas easier. I've used the grid, rumble roller, and just regular old foam and this is a great tool. I tried to use it to roll my back, but I didn't really like it for that purpose. For back work I will continue to use my rumble roller, but for everything else this can't be beat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Innovative Product This is a great product that really does enhance a person's ability to increase their mobility. I've used foam rollers of varying quality and hardness, rumble rollers, pvc pipes, lacrosse balls, med balls, and all of Starett's MobilityWOD line. The Battlestar is a great addition to those products. All of these tools have their place in the toolbox. This may replace some of them for certain purposes, but that will end up being the preference of the user in the end. The best way to describe the Battlestar is it best resembles a series of roller blade wheels, stuck together, that have a rubber surface with a slight bit of give. The metal rod that runs through the center is very well constructed. It it is built to last. I bought the entire kit (the big, the little, and the cradle). The cradle is dense plastic that doesn't appear to have much give to it, even when a 240lb athlete like myself has much of their bodyweight on it. Who knows how long it will last. I really like how the Battlestar is able to hit my smaller muscles (calves especially) with a higher degree of efficiency than other rollers. It does a good job of hitting the big muscles too but the little muscles really seems to be where this product shines. I'm looking forward to the handles becoming available because I am a big fan of The Stick and the benefits that type of product can offer. This is definitely something that should be on the radar of athletes who look to make the most out of rollers and that type of mobility training. Keep in mind that if you go from a foam roller right to the Battlestar, it will be uncomfortable. This is normal so don't give up on it. We didn't become stiff in a day, and we won't resolve all our issues in a day either.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great, but could be greater At one time there were plans for handles to go with the roller. Where are they? I use the little battlestar every day, and would take it along when traveling if it only had handles. I missed it so much on a one week trip I might take it anyway next time, cradle and all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE BEST Don't waste anymore money on basic foam rollers. This thing smashes through muscle and gets right in those little knots. The battlestar will have you making the craziest faces as you are working out all that is tight. This product is a must!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Tool Ever! This is by far the best mobility tool out there. I've purchased tons of other products all claiming to heal the body, but this one actually lives up to the hype. The amount of shear you can create to make change is insane! If you're following MWOD Pro, it's even better to have the tools KStar uses so you can reap the full benefit. For the hard to get to places, check out the gemini and supernova. They can get to the small bits a lot easier. This product is highly recommended for anyone dealing with short and stiff tissues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Booyah! Echo all the other reviews, get one. Shear is the key to cleaning up tissues. A couple of techniques I use: (1) place both calves/heel cords (forearms & triceps also) on little battleship in cradle and pull in different directions to increase shear load...not only do get a better shear you also get done twice as fast (also do all sides of calf) (2) the idea a reviewer shared on using on feet with a lunge...excellent (3) It seems more effective to not let the battleship spin like a normal foam roller, but to use your hand to stop the rotation to increase shear load. (4) The ability to do minuscule detail work is unmatched. Never thought about precise before this. Good hunting!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battlestar Yes, it is the best roller ever. It makes getting to those tissues (you know the ones) so much easier and creating obvious change. I use mostly only the little Battlestar in the cradle. Works best on legs, calvs, lats and arms, and feet. It has an an interesting stimulus for the t-spine, but frankly the Gemini is best for that. My biggest advice is: don't try to push your body back and forth like one would for any other roller. Use the technique he uses in 1:54 in the video, where your hand controls the roller in the cradle. This allows you to be super precise and allows the rest of the body to mostly relax on top the roller. Lastly just mess around and let creativity be your guide. You'll find out quickly how best to use it. There is one cool move I tried today that I can't resist sharing. Getting into a lunge position with the front foot on top of the Small Battlestar, and using the aforementioned technique with the hand controlling the roller. Did you know your feet were THAT stiff?? Man, thanks Kelly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing x10 Better than a barbell The little battle star and cradle are easily x10 better than using a barbell on your heel cords and IT band. The grippy rollers give you the ability to take up all slack and apply huge amounts of shear. This is the most effective tool on my heel cords I've ever tried. The cradle elevates your leg to the perfect height to allow you to apply movement while smashing your heel cords. Get the battlestar today and see immediate improvement in your mobility.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible The possibilities of this tool are endless. After only a few days it has already surpassed my expectations. A very worthy addition to my mobility arsenal. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pure Genius Absolutely fantastic rollers. I thought my IT bands were in great shape using a normal foam roller, but with the battlestar I'm getting to places I didn't even know existed. Great for any hard to smash areas like hamstrings, forearms, pecs, gracilis, achilles, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Yes a tad on the pricey side, but considering mobility is something most of us do daily then it is a good investment. What I think are the benefits of this roller compared to others is that it is stable and your body is able to move independently around the roller. The two different sizes make it nice to find the smaller muscles/body parts to break down. Not too big or bulky either. The ONLY negative thing I would/could say is I wish with the price tag it would also come with some ideas for movements. A brochure or pamphlet would be a nice treat... Overall if you're into mobility... I would pick this up!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the money Best roller I have ever used! Nothing smashes my quads and calf like this roller. With the gripping shear and pressure waving this roller does I notice immediate improvement in my mobility. Can't wait to see what else it can do! First review I ever given on anything I purchased. 5 stars for the battlestar!
