Columbus Craftsmanship, World Class Quality

The Ohio Bar isn’t just one of Rogue’s most durable and versatile weightlifting bars, it’s also a direct reflection of the proud professionals who build it. From the 190,000 PSI steel to the distinctive dual knurl marks and four separate coating options, every detail of the Ohio Bar is held to the absolute highest standard—as you can see in the step-by-step process below.

1 New 190,000 PSI Steel

This steel is manufactured in the US and has proven to be one of the best steel variants for a multi-purpose barbell.

Each barbell shaft is ground and polished prior to machining which allows the bar to have a very smooth finish post any black oxide, zinc or chrome finish.

2Machining

Each bar shaft is machined on new Haas machines that are built in the US. A great deal of pride is built into each bar as the knurling process is an art. We spent months working on the knurl we believe to be the best for the Ohio Bar.

To test the knurl it is more a beer tasting process than exact measurement. There is a look and feel that go into testing every bar.

3 Fit and Finish

The Ohio Bar is available with 4 different finishes. Each finish offers a different level of oxidization protecion and has a direct effect on the feel of the knurl.

Black Oxide is a mild oxidization protectant process. This type of steel treatment will still require some maintenance but will give the best knurl feel, more like a naked bar.

Bright Zinc and Black Zinc is a medium oxidization protectant process. This type of steel treatment requires minimal maintenance and is used on The Rogue and Bella Bars.

Satin Hard Chrome is a high oxidization protectant process. The feel of this bar is similar to brushed steel.

4Assembly

The Ohio Bar is assembled with bronze bushings which act as bearing surfaces between the bar sleeve and bar shaft. This is a very robust way of building a barbell.

Each bar will come with an Ohio Bar card that has the initials of the Rogue team member that built the bar.

5Performance

This bar will have normal “whip” during Olympic weightlifting and enough stiffness to hold for heavy powerlifting. The steel in this bar is proven as an excellent choice for weightlifters.

Each Rogue Ohio Bar is machined and assembled in Columbus, Ohio, and includes a lifetime guarantee against bending**.

The bushing sleeves on the Ohio Bar promise a reliable spin, and their snap ring design maintains optimal stability throughout any type of weightlifting regimen-- from basic high school or collegiate strength training programs to intense Crossfit workouts.

Ohio Bar Coating Options You can select one of the following available coatings from the sidebar:

  • Standard Black Oxide Treatment
  • Black Zinc Plating with Bright Zinc Sleeves - Same zinc combination as the Rogue Bar
  • Black Zinc Plating with Black Zinc Sleeves – Murdered out
  • Satin Hard Chrome – Top of the line finish with more of a matte look than standard chrome

Versions:

Version 1.1 - This is the first version of the Ohio Bar manufactured by Rogue
Version 1.2 - We upgraded the steel used in the shaft  to 190,000 PSI tensile strength steel.

Whichever coating you choose, Rogue has provided some helpful tips for long term Bar Care & Maintenance.

*Warranty against bending does not cover any bar which has been damaged due to negligent or faulty use, alteration, maintenance, storage or handling by the user. Negligent or faulty use includes abusive dropping of the bar (i.e., dropping the bar on a box, bench, spotter arms or pins in a power rack, excessive dropping with insufficient or damaged bumpers, or excessive dropping with iron plates, and similar usage). Any specific issues regarding a Rogue product with which a customer is not satisfied will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Rogue has a replacement rate of less than 0.0002 on bars. We have found that most problems with bars we replace are related to abusive use rather than manufacturing or materials issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bar! This thing looks bad awesome and performs bad great. The knurling is perfect for what I use it for (CrossFit and Olympic lifts). The collars spin freely and it doesn't make much noise when loaded with plates and dropped. You definitely get what you pay for and in this case I'm glad I didn't go cheap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Of course it's good! Got this in the mail today. Sweet bar! Used it for Fran. I got the black/black zinc. I think it's going to wear nicely. I like "character "

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bar I am the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at a college in Missouri. I purchased 8 of these bars [zinc-black on black] about a month ago and have been very happy with them so far. They get a TON of use [450 athletes, lifting 3-5 times per week] by some very strong, explosive athletes. Being a former competitive weightlifter, I was slightly hesitant about purchasing something I had not personally used. Rogue provided excellent customer service, and a high quality product. I am very happy with them, and will be purchasing more products from them in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made With Pride This thing is incredible. I was undecided on a multi-purpose barbell for quite some time now between the Rogue Bar 2.0, the Ohio Bar, and the Froning Bushing Bar (which is an Ohio Bar with Froning R* signature end caps) but I could not be happier with any other bar. (I went with the blacked out zinc model.) This wasn't my first purchase from Rogue so I definitely expected it to be nice for being their flagship bar, but when I pulled it out of it's packaging I was completely blown away by the quality. It's hard to paint a picture of how legendary this bar is just by typing this up but I can promise you just from over 6 years of lifting and barbell training that you CANNOT be disappointed if you order an Ohio Bar. It is by far the most well-put-together barbell I have ever used. It will seamlessly serve any lifting purpose, from high-skill olympic lifts to heavy powerlifts. The grip feel is literally flawless. Knurling is exactly how it should be. Not razor sharp but nowhere near passive. The spin is more than I'd expect from a bushing bar. It's just right. Rogue, I won't say you've outdone yourself with your flagship bar, because I knew it was gonna be great, but it has far exceeded my expectations. That "R" is a true American mark of quality and pride. Keep it up and thank you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Black Oxide (WILL RUST SUPER EASY) I love this bar! BUT....... I would trade it in if i could for one that was more rust resistant... I have this in my house, in the AC and it started to rust after one day of having it... if you don't keep it oiled it will rust... But here is the issue... its now OILED... that makes it slick... I wish i would have read the details about mild rust resistance... it rusts like bare steel. So keep it oiled... Again, I would highly recommend getting one that doesn't rust so easily... That is my only REGRET with any of my rogue Products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 190k ohio bar. Flip flopped on the rogue bar 2.0, and the ohio bar. After some back and forth with the staff, I went with the ohio bar. To be fair, this is the only quality barbell I have ever handled, but I'm very impressed. Collars spin well, though I will at some point end up with a true only bar for those lifts. Snatches yesterday, heavy deads and squats today, performed admirably on all counts. It sounds cliche, but you can just feel the quality when you grab it. Knurling is badass! Chalk it up and it's Velcro but doesn't murder your hands. I chose the black oxide and I am glad I did. MY ONE GRIPE is that the finish seems to be very susceptible to scratching on the collars even after just a couple days. Overall though, 10/10.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent bar The Ohio Bar is the first barbell I have bought. My first-hand knowledge of barbells only encompasses those used at my local gym (not a CrossFit box). My hands would get torn up with the knurling by those bars. I never realized that knurling could feel so good in the sense that it provides a secure grip, but without tearing up your hands. This bar certainly spins better than what I am used to using, but my frame of reference is limited. I have the bright zinc/blank zinc version, and the bar is a beauty. For an all purpose bar, it has served me well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect grip I have used a lot of bars and I am thoroughly impressed by these bars we have had them at our school for 1 month now and they only get better as the break in. 6 sports programs are using these daily and 140 athletes and they work great. Grip is awesome, the feel makes you want to pull more weight and for people with in experience hand gives you more traction to grab. We ordered the black zinc bars. As others have stated the finish looks frickin great when you open them but does not stay that way when you are using them, but who cares. They are meant to be abused and these bars take it. Thanks for making great product we can use

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Bar! Very good bar. The only complaint I have is how easily the zinc comes off of the sleeves of the bar. Does it effect the performance of the bar? Not at all. It is sincerely just a picky item and not a big deal. it is worth mentioning however as this was the reason I got the Ohio Bar rather than the Rogue 2.0 bar. I wanted the all black look. Knowing what I know now, I probably would have gotten he new Rogue bar 2.0 only because if the zinc was going to come off of the bar, I would have gotten sleeves that were not all black... still a FANTASTIC BAR with this being the ONLY MINOR issue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good bar I bought an Ohio bar about 4 months ago for using in my garage. The bar feels sturdy and holds up to a beating, and as an Ohio kid, born and bred, I like the red Ohio endcap. Really solid craftsmanship. However, I'm not completely sold on the knurl. Don't get me wrong, it's top quality, but it's a little too rough for my taste. In retrospect I may have preferred the Rogue Bar. The knurl can really rips my hands up even when holding chalk.... Maybe i just have sissy hands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite bar hands down I've had my bar for a year now and it's been nothing short of near perfection! I bought the black zinc bar, aside from normal wear from near daily use over the last year it's like new. The bar feels great in hand, the knurl has held up much better than any bar I've used prior to -- I expect nothing less from Rogue -- bar flex is minimal. I have only one issue, it took me 20 minutes to get it out of the packaging. hahaha, pleased Rogue ships their products with care :) I live in FL and train in my garage, the bar has upheld its integrity and craftsmanship under the severe changes in humidity and heat we deal with regularly. As a Columbus native I had to get this bar -- the positive reviews helped too -- and I'm more than pleased with my choice!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from You don't always get what you pay for Within a week my black zinc bar turned army green, emailed rogue, was told bars required maintenance and was sent a link to video on how to clean bar with 3/1 oil. That was it. Cleaned bar with oil, obviously it was still green, emailed again, they asked for pics and after getting them said they would send replacement, got replacement today. There was no end on the packaging and bar was scuffed. Emailed again and told them about it and that the powder coating is coming off my yoke after two weeks. Offered to send replacement bar but didn't even acknowledge I said anything about yoke. Very disappointed, I am a ohio native living in Texas and spent a pretty big chunk of money on there stuff because of there reputation, never again. If your in the DFW area, I'll make you a good deal on a y-3 yoke.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great knurl, great spin, looks awesome, dont hesitate to buy it Like a lot of people, this was my first real barbell. I was coming from a standard "no name" bar that had a very passive knurl and basically no spin. I bought some bumper plates and after less than a month of dropping them one of the sleeves came off, so i decided to invest in something better. And make no mistake, this was a big investment for me.. I Went with the ohio bar and i'm definitely happy i did. Knurling and spin are amazing compared to my old bar, and the black oxide finish looks sick. This is hands down the nicest bar i've ever used (not that i have a ton of experience with different bars). As long as the sleeves stay on the bar (i'm sure they will) I have no complaints about this bar. Thanks Rogue!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Happy I am very happy with my new Ohio bar. The bar feels well balanced and does not feel as heavy as my other bar. It's very stylish (if you can say that) for a weightlifting bar. I'm very happy with my purchase and would do it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Bar Never had my own bar before, so I don't have much to compare to. Knurl is pretty mild when compared to the "olympic" bars in my gym with the center knurl, but less tacky than the knurl on what I assume to be the cheaper bars in the gym. The sleeves roll nicely, but don't spin like crazy when you spin them. No complaints so far. Love the black bar/bright zinc sleeve look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it!!! This is the 1st bar that I ever bought, I have used many different bars through out the years at gyms but they do not compare to this bar in anyway. The feel & texture of the bar is just great, it just feels natural in the hands, and the Black Oxide coating & knurling is just spot on its grippy but it doesn't feel like its ripping your hands apart. If you buy this bar you will love and you won't feel like its over priced, if anything you might walk away thinking that you stole it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent multipurpose bar! This is probably the best multipurpose I've owned. It's a jack of all trades, not a specialty bar... with that in mind the thing is incredible. Feel great, sticky knurl, good spin, beautiful finish. I got the Black Oxide, as I like the "bare steel" feeling, and it didn't disappoint. The knurl is mild by my standards, but nice and sticky. For heavy powerlifting (over 400 or so) I still use a power bar, but on days when I do mixed exercises, the bar really shines. Order it expecting a multipurpose and it will definitely deliver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from outstanding bar! Purchased this bar seven months ago and am VERY pleased thus far. Have dropped from overhead repeatedly with 95#-135# & occasionally with 155#-185# with no problems. I love the spin, diameter, & knurling on this bar! Would buy another, but I don't anticipate needing to for a long time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect received my black on black zinc bar a month ago and have been impressed since I got it. The knurling is excellent, not too deep that it cuts. The no centre knurling is perfect for deadlift and cleans, yet still great to squat with. This bar sees everything in my garage, Olympic lifting, dealifting, squats, rack pulls, bench pressing etc. Out of everything I've bought for my home gym, i'm glad I spent the money on this bar, worth every penny. I'm glad I didn't cheap out and get a bar that I would have to replace after a year or so because it's bent and the collars are loose!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bar Reviews I currently own a Ohio bar (150k) tensile strength which was standard before they beefed it up to 190k. I also own a pendlay hd bar, and I was given a rogue bar as a present. The Ohio bar is black oxide, and living in New Jersey I put wd-40 at least every other week to keep the rust off the knurling. The spin is a bit better than the rogue bar, but not as good as the Pendlay Bar. As far as whip is concerned, Ohio bar again is better than the rogue, but much less than the Pendlay bar. I happen to love all three bars and would not wish to get rid of either one. The bar that I use most often is actually the rogue bar, it has great strength, good aggressive knurl, and it spins great. It can hold up to heavy deadlifts and can also be used as an Olympic bar. As a crossfitter for just about two years, I highly recommend the Ohio or the Rogue bar. I use both in WOD's all the time, and I have no wear on either bar. If you would like to strictly concentrate of Olympic lifting, than I would recommend the Pendlay HD bar. Since the steel in the Ohio bar has went up to 190K, I would love to feel how that bar performs now that it has the same tensile strength as the Pendlay bar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazed! I'm pretty new to Oly lifts, and certainly new to high end equipment, but have worked out my entire life. Everything from Bodybuilding, to mountain bike racing, to trail running, to MMA, to Jiu-Jitsu, but there is just something I'm really enjoying about the challenges I'm faced with in Olympic lifts and Crossfit workouts. The Ohio bar is a geniune piece of ingenuity. My Olympic lifts immediately felt easier and more fluid, and if a bar could be sexy, this one is! Lol

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality I just finished my first workout with my new black/bright zinc Ohio Bar. I am very impressed with the overall craftsmanship and attention to detail put into this bar. The spin on this bar is very smooth and comparable to bearing bars that I have used that cost over twice as much. This isn't the first Rogue product I've used, but it is the first one I've owned and it won't be the last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bar! Got the 1.2 Ohio Bar with Black on Black Zinc and it's fantastic! I loved the Rogue Bar but this has something else to it. The spin and feels so much smoother and the whip is perfect! If I had the choice between the Rogue Bar or the Ohio Bar, I'd go with the Ohio Bar for sure! Now I have to bars and I'm sure my go to will be the Ohio Bar!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best of the best This is a great bar! I own the Satin Hard Chrome Ohio bar. Pulled it out of the shipping sleeve and was amazed at how solid and well built it was. I thought that I may have never lifted with a REAL Olympic bar before it felt so solid! During use, the grip was amazing! Not to much knurl but at the same time not to little. Just right! This thing sets the standard for what a good bar should be! Good job Rogue!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Bar- for price and function I have been in the market for an Olympic bar, and simply put, you can't buy a better bar. You can either buy a bar that over 100 bucks that will break within a few weeks, buy a bar for the amount the rogue and ohio bars cost, or buy another bar thats over 500 dollars that has ALMOST the quality but hasn't the reputation, customer service, or the pride of being american made. I bought the ohio zinc (i live in a humid climate) and it's the centerpiece to my gym. I'll never go anywhere else but rogue. The best quality bar, with a price any cross fitter can afford. It takes every bit of the beating i put it through. If you are doubting just a little bit, don't anymore, buy it now!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My First Bar & Last This is my first 20KG bar that I have ever purchased and will be the last as the quality is top notch. The knurl is perfect, grippy yet easy on the hands. I have the Black Zinc Shaft / Bright Zinc Sleeves and I am well pleased. The bearings are smooth and tight, spins real easy...great craftsmanship. The only thing I find wrong with this bar is the name OHIO??? HOOSIER BAR sounds better! ROGUE IS AMERICAN QUALITY.....Buy this bar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Satin Hard Chrome = Bliss I purchased the satin chrome finish - it is the best feeling bar I've ever had in my hands. The knurling is perfect for me and the spin is great for a non-bearing bar. It's the satin chrome finish that puts it over the top though, and it creates an overall texture that's really pleasing to touch and to look at it. Granted, it's still a hybrid bar, and it will not replace some of the higher end weightlifting bearing bars costing at least twice as much, but I won't throw a tantrum if the bar is used in a rack either. It's a great compromise at a great price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A solid bar The bar is very well crafted. The spin is nice and smooth, the knurling is great. I regret getting the zinc coating, however. It is coming right off with routine usage. I have had the bar for two weeks and it looks quite splotchy. To be clear: The bar itself is great. Far superior to any gym beater I've used before.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ohio Bar I was pretty skeptical when reading how game changing this bar was, so I was eager to receive it. It was 100% what everyone has to say about it. The best way I can describe it is that it feels very dense. Because of this it seems to have a very controlled balance to it, I never felt I had to concentrate on balancing the weight, I just had to bring it up and down. The knurl was really cool, it was smoother than my previous bar yet it had a lot more natural grip to it, my hands felt great after lifting. Only bad part was that one of the sleeves was scratched up a bit, but I do not really mind because it is bound to happen anyways.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing bar This is the first real 20 KG barbell I've had, and I have to say I'm glad I got this as my first one. Before this bar came I was using a 15 pound technique bar. The sleeves didn't rotate and the diameter was tiny and the knurl was very passive. This is WAY more than a step up. The knurl feels great. The spin on the sleeves is perfect for both types of weight lifting, and the black oxide finish and red end cap makes to be a very sharp looking bar for a garage gym or affiliate. It's worth the extra money trust me. You won't be disappointed. I look forward to purchasing a lot more gear from Rogue and using it for many years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bar - Pick the finish that works best for you The bar is awesome, smoothe and best of all the knurl is perfectly grippy without being harsh. I have used both the black oxide and black zinc. They both have a great grip, but I would give a slight (SLIGHT) edge to the black oxide - the teeth feel just a little sharper so it "latches to your hand" slightly better. However, I live in Houston, Tx (humid) and keep the bar in the garage. I let the black oxide bar sit for a week after using it without wiping it down, and it was covered in a thin rust film. Basically, you have to keep it wiped down after use (a quick towel coated with 3-1 oil worked great for me). I think the oxidation rate slowed down after wiping it down for a month or so. Anyway, it developes a patina (a matte slightly oxidized) finish. If you want the absolute best and are good about maintaining your equipment, you might give it the edge. However, my zinc coated bar I just use it and put it up, it's never showed any oxidation, I don't have to wipe it down after using it (or conversely re-chalk after every cleaning). It has a great grip, I dont need or even want it to be any better. For me, hands down zinc coated works better. If I was in a climate controlled or lower humidity environment, or really liked that patina raw steel old school bar feel - and don't mind cleaning/oiling the bar - I might consider the black oxide. If mild pitting/oxidation would bother you, I would definitely go with zinc, you won't be giving up anything you would notice. Hope that helps anyone on the fence.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Worth The Extra $$ I was on the hunt for a new bar for a while, and I was at a toss up between quite a few based on the price (since I will only be using it in my home gym). I was debating between this bar, the beater bar, and a few other bars from other companies. Never having used this before, and loving the black on black oxide look I bought it, and I couldn't be happier. Having worked in multiple gyms, exercise physiology labs, and friends having other rogue bars, I am glad I got this one, it beats them all. The grip is great, the sleeves move so fluid, I instantly noticed my lifts feeling better (paired them with some new bumpers by rogue and it even looks amazing, and makes you want to lift more!) Amazing bar by Rogue, worth the extra $$ if you can swing it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth it for grip alone I work out at a crossfit gym full of cheap bars, where about half of them are bent, and a good bit of them have shark tooth grip that chews my hands up. This is my first bar, and I can only compare it to the cheap ones my gym has. First off, the grip has to be felt to be believed. I got the Black Oxide finish after much back and forth in my head, but it feels awesome! Your hand just sticks to the bar without being too rough. Anyone who has laid hands on it at the gym love the grip as well. The finish looks great as well. I enjoy having my own bar for consistency, so I know how it's going to feel every time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Black Beauty I had some shipping problems with another bar I ordered. Pretty much UPS fault. I had to ship the bar back twice because of damage in shipping. Rogue takes customer satisfaction seriously. This bar came out and I had to have it. I love everything about this bar, it is as close to raw steel as you can get so the grip is really firm. The knurl is just aggressive enough. I use a manta ray to squat with, so no center knurl is pretty much what I needed. Like the oxidized finish the best. Bar doesn't flex too much, just enough. Everyone who has seen the bar loves it.
