Our hand-made Dinnie Rings are modeled directly from those found on the Rogue Replica Dinnie Stones used in sanctioned Strongman events and Rogue Record Breakers challenges.
First commissioned in 1998 by Gordon Dinnie–a distant descendant of the legendary Scottish Strongman Donald Dinnie–the Replica Stones have slightly different ring specs than the original 19th century Dinnie Stones, but they are far from modern in design. With their notably non-uniform sizing, the rings offer athletes a unique option for grip strength training, with a wide range of potential attachments and ring lifting challenges.

Sold in pairs (one large + one small), Rogue’s Dinnie Rings are all individually hand-forged from American steel (5/8” diameter) by the experienced blacksmiths at Lockhart Ironworks in Logan, Ohio. Much of this traditional process stays true to the methods that would have been used to create the original Dinnie Rings in the 1800s. It also means that no two sets of rings are identical, and the dimensions and weight may vary slightly from set to set.

For generations, strength athletes from around the world have flocked to the small hamlet of Potarch in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, to try and lift two massive granite boulders named for the Strongman who made them famous. In 1860, as the legend goes, Donald Dinnie carried the stones—weighing a combined 733 LBS—barehanded across the 17 foot Potarch Bridge, using the stones’ affixed, uneven iron rings as his grips. The Dinnie Stones have continued to inspire Strongmen and Strongwomen ever since, with the modern Rogue Replica Stones seen routinely in major international competitions.
Each and every Rogue Dinnie Ring is individually hand-forged from American steel by professional blacksmiths Doug Lockhart and Danielle Russell at Lockhart Ironworks in Logan, Ohio. Doug brings more than 35 years of experience to the table in this field, and Danielle has made national news as a leading talent breaking down old gender barriers in the smithing trade. Because they use traditional methods, no two sets of Dinnie Rings are exactly the same, and the dimensions and weight may vary slightly from set to set. There are two general sizes to choose from, however: Large (7” x 6.5” / 1.65 LBS) and Small (6.25” x 5.25” / 1.38 LBS).
