The Castro Bar

For athletes who prefer the classic look and feel of a bare steel barbell, the Rogue Castro Bar belongs in your arsenal. This polished 28.5mm bar is machined and individually assembled in Columbus, OH, and features the same quality U.S. steel, bronze bushings, and dual knurl marks as our flagship Ohio Bar. The texture of the signature knurling allows for a firm grip without feeling sharp, and the bare steel won't get slippery in sweaty hands--making the Castro Bar less dependent on chalk than many coated bars.

With a minimum tensile strength of 190,000 PSI, the Castro Bar has the perfect balance of whip for the Olympic lifter and rigidity for the powerlifter. And its lifetime warranty against bending* ensures it can stand up to daily abuse—whether in a garage gym, college weight room, or professional training facility.

A bare steel bar like this one does require a different level of upkeep than most oxide, zinc or chrome plated bars. Occasionally brushing the Castro Bar down with 3-in-1 or WD-40 will help prevent rusting and create a nice patina look. This is how bars were made for decades and it really produces an unmatched feel.

*Warranty against bending does not cover any bar which has been damaged due to negligent or faulty use, alteration, maintenance, storage or handling by the user. Negligent or faulty use includes abusive dropping of the bar (i.e., dropping the bar on a box, bench, spotter arms or pins in a power rack, excessive dropping with insufficient or damaged bumpers, or excessive dropping with iron plates, and similar usage). Any specific issues regarding a Rogue product with which a customer is not satisfied will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We have found that most problems with bars we replace are related to abusive use rather than manufacturing or materials issues.

Please Note: Like any fine piece of machined steel, a bare steel barbell will require some upkeep. Occasionally brushing the bar down with 3-in-1 oil or WD-40 will create a beautiful patina look. This is how bars were made for decades and it really does produce an unmatched feel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Tool To Be Treasured After much dissatisfaction with my mediocre hex-bolt old friend that had once served me well when I was just starting to delve into compound lifts, I'd decided a few months ago that it was high time I spent a little more for better equipment. Namely, a bar that wouldn't bend bearing 180lbs or clang like a bell every time I picked it up. Weeks of research lead me to look toward rogue for an answer. I knew what I wanted most of all was a grip that wouldn't let up through sweat and caked on chalk, but wasn't going to mutilate my flesh with rows of spiked teeth. The Castro Bar delivers this, and a couple of other things I wasn't expecting. Having no coating on the bar did worry me a bit at first, but it actually produced a feel of ultimate security in my hands. Nothing short of grip failure can rip this baby from me. I haven't really loaded it up with too serious a weight in order to test the whip in any real capacity, but I appreciate the bar's rigidity at lower weights and the amount of force that it stands up to in the slower lifts. The switch between bars has also opened me up to realizing just how large my old bar's diameter really was, probably in an attempt to make up for the weakness of the steel. The 28.5mm shaft on the Castro allows me to actually execute and secure a proper hook grip through the entire pull on the snatch and clean. Not to mention, the spin, being a component of a barbell I'd never given much thought to, amazed me with just how much of it there was. When lightly lubricated, the sleeves produce a spin lasting anywhere from 8-12 seconds, and with no ungodly rattling to speak of. Even the twice-weekly maintenance of the bar feels like an experience of appreciation and bonding with such a well crafted piece of equipment on which to spend the time. If you're pretty new to taking training seriously, and need an heirloom quality barbell at a reasonable price with a warranty to match, do yourself and your future generations a favor my picking up one of these bad boys.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Save your money-skip the cheap big box store bars. I purchased this bar after exceeding the weight limit on a cheap olympic bar from one of the big box retailers. The finish is so much better. The cheap bar had deep grooves on the sleeves that made it difficult to add/remove the plates and collars. These are much smoother. The chrome was chipping off the cheap bar. The bare steel Castro bar is great-excellent grip and I don't have to use chalk excessively like I did with the cheap bar. The knurling is grippy and well machined. The knurling on the cheap bar was off by a half-inch in either direction and inconsistent in texture. Save yourself some money and skip the cheap bar-this is an investment. It's an American-made product that I expect to last a lifetime.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome bar!! I don't have any complaints about this bar and it fits my style (bare bones/bare metal)!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic bar! I fully agree with others about how good this bar is. I have a quality bearing bar and my Castro bar compares very favorably with it. It seems to me the spin is just as good on this bar as on the bearing bar. If you can't afford a bearing bar - get this one you won't be disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from That spin though.. Whoa. I originally had the first version. Upgraded to the newest "Ohio bar chasis" version 2 when it was released. The bare steel is fantastic.. worth the slight upkeep, in my opinion. Knurling is CLEAN (perfect stops and starts.. better than the first version). Great depth that sticks, but not too aggressive. Crazy part is I have a bearing bar from another company, and this bar spins MUCH longer. This might be the best all-around bar on the planet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bare steel, great spin, great value After 6 months of use in our box, this bar proven to be a fantastic performer. The knurling combined with bare steel finish give endless grip and the collar spin rivals our bearing bars. All this and a super competitive price. Make this the standard bar for your box and you won't be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Love This Barbell! Bare steel is the way to go... I do wods with sweaty hands and no chalk but this bar has awesome knurling and just doesn't get slippery. Check the specs... For the price, this barbell has no competition!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect I've had my bar about 13 months now. It's a fantastic bar, holding up great, developing a good patina, and I really only have one little gripe/annoyance- the knurling is offset by about 3/16". I didn't notice it at first, but there it is. I can easily compensate, and it's not a huge deal, just annoying. Otherwise I love it, and hove no issue recommending Rogue bars to others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Welcome Back! Glad to see you brought the Castro Bar back. It's a fantastic buy for those who can't afford the more expensive bearing bars. The knurl great as is the spin. I rarely oil it and it still looks great! Haven't had issues with rust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worth every penny My first high end bar. I have only owned one bar, an old bare steel that I thought I loved. It has been in the corner since this one arrived. Great spin and just enough whip. Love it. Who's surprised its ROGUE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Five stars I just got the bar. What can I say it rocks. The bare finish and knurl are sweet. The spin is smooth. My first quality bar and I now see the difference. Thanks Rogue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bar! I am no elite crossfit athlete, but this bar is awesome! The construction is flawless. The knurl is perfect and the collar spin is very smooth. However, if you live near the ocean or in a humid climate(like the southern states), the bar will really need to be kept up and cleaned/oiled frequently if you want to keep the finish nice. Within just a few days, there was already rust along the shaft and collars. Personally, I don't mind at all doing a little extra work to keep my equipment nice. Just be mindful that it will rust!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite Bar We have several Rogue bars at our box, but this one quickly became everyone's favorite... Great grip feels good in your hands! We also let ours rust a little bit lending it an "old school" look that everyone appreciates. Holds up great to any lift we've thrown at it. (Olympic and Powerlifting) I highly recommend this bar...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Quality Bar Bought this bar as an all purpose bar to supplement my high end olympic lifting bars. The quality, spin and finish are superb. I highly recommend this bar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great bar I train both olympic lifts and power lifts and this bar is strong! its mildly flexible too, but not like an Elieko. I've been doing 5x5 deadlifts with 565lbs and its holding up great. The spin is okay, but may not be fast enough for elite oly lifters. Overall, great investment and I'll probably have this bar forever
