Rich Froning
As the winner of four consecutive CrossFit Games men’s titles (2011–2014), Rich Froning dominated the title of “Fittest Man on Earth” like no one before him. The former firefighter from Cookeville, Tennessee, first took up CrossFit in 2009 and made his Games debut a year later, finishing second overall. From that point forward, the 5’9”, 195 lb Froning defeated a growing pool of determined challengers to remain at the top of his sport.
Even after stepping away from individual competition, Rich continued his winning ways as the captain of CrossFit Mayhem Freedom. He led the team to seven CrossFit Games team titles—2015, 2016, and 2018–2022—bringing his total Games championships to 11. After 2022, Froning officially retired from team competition.
Since 2020, Rich has also hosted the Mayhem Classic, an elite-level CrossFit competition held in early April at CrossFit Mayhem in Cookeville. Originally part of the Sanctionals circuit, it’s now an official CrossFit Games qualifying “In‑Person Qualifying Event,” inviting the world’s top 20 male and female athletes. 🏋️♂️ The Classic has taken place annually on Rich’s home turf—Cookeville, Tennessee.
During his time as a Rogue athlete, Froning has helped develop his own line of Signature Series gear, including the Rogue Froning Barbell, medballs, and Speed Rope, alongside apparel featuring the iconic Froning *R logo. His 2013 book, First: What It Takes to Win, explores his spiritual drive, strict workout schedule, and flexible diet. His journey is also portrayed in the 2015 documentary, Froning.
Rich currently lives in Cookeville with his wife, Hillary, and their three children. His family-run business, Froning Farms, produces bison snacks—a natural protein continuing his legacy of fitness, faith, farming, and functional living.
