MG-4CN Narrow Multi Grip Camber Bar

MG-4CN 5" Additional Handle Pairs

Product Description

The MG-4NC is adapted from the design of our MG-4C Camber Multi-Grip Bar, and is distinguished by its narrower frame (7.1” wide vs. 10”) and shorter/thicker handles (5” long vs. 6.75” long, 32mm diameter vs. 28.5mm). As with the other speciality bars in Rogue’s MG-4 series*, this model offers two major advantages over other multi-grip barbells on the market:

  • The sleeves rotate in the style of a standard barbell and come in your choice of two nearly indestructible finishes.
  • Athletes can select both the width and angle of the handles, building a bar that is optimized for their size and training preferences.

*For a flat, non-cambered multi-grip bar with these same features, see our MG-4F Bar.

The MG-4CN’s friction welded sleeves, which are available with 9” of loadable length or 15.5” of loadable length, use the same internal components as our standard barbells and rotate on shafts made from the same stainless steel as our power bars. The distance between the sleeves is also the standard 51.5”, making the bar rackable on any Rogue power rack, squat stand, rig, or bench.

MG-4CN Narrow Multi Grip Camber Bar

In addition to the pair of 5”  straight handles included with the Narrow Camber Multi-Grip Bar, customers can order extra pairs of straight, 16-degree, or 20-degree handles, which can be added to the frame at 1 inch intervals. For functional use, this means that sets of handles can be spaced anywhere from a minimum of 6” to a maximum of 26” apart, allowing athletes to customize their bar for multiple movements–from close grip presses and triceps work to biomechanically optimized grips at shoulder-width and beyond. All handles, regardless of angle, have a diameter of 32mm and the same knurl pattern as our Ohio Bars.

Please Note: Due to their shorter length, the 5” long handles of the MG-4CN are NOT compatible with bars in the MG-4 series.

The sleeves, handles, and hardware of the MG-4CN are all finished in your choice of either stainless steel or our proprietary matte black finish. Both of these extremely durable, corrosion-resistant options will maintain the look and performance of the sleeves across daily use. And because the proprietary matte black finish doesn’t add any thickness when applied, customers can expect that both the stainless and black handle options will feel exactly as they would coming straight out of the lathe. Note: The handle and bolt finish will match your selected sleeve finish.

The 41” frame portion of the bar is built from 1” x 2” 11-gauge steel tubing with 1/4” plates, a machined socket, and a matte black powder coat finish. The cambered shape with 3.5” of drop allows for a greater range of motion when using the outer handles on certain movements (such as bench or rows), and also helps to improve stability, as the bar’s center of mass–relative to hand placement–is lower. At a width of 7.1”, the frame of the MG-4CN is also nearly 3” narrower than the standard MG-4C, allowing for easier maneuverability for some athletes.

The sleeves are assembled to the shafts by our barbell assembly team, but to save on shipping costs, we developed a unique interlocking taper design that allows for easy assembly with a single nut using the included wrench. The joint created by this interlocking taper is every bit as strong as a weld, and will hold up to whatever an athlete throws at it. Even after the nut is removed, it takes a lot of force with a mallet to free the shaft from the socket (something to keep in mind if you decide to change to a different sleeve length at a later date).

Two Sleeve Length Options (Both are Rackable):

  • 15.5” of Loadable Sleeve Space - 54LB unloaded bar weight (frame + sleeves + 2 handles). Available with stainless steel or proprietary matte black finish.
  • 9” of Loadable Sleeve Space - 44 LB unloaded bar weight (frame + sleeves + 2 handles). Available with stainless steel or proprietary matte black finish.

*The shaft is stainless steel in all versions, regardless of sleeve finish or length.

IMPORTANT: The MG-4CN Bar ships with the sleeve assemblies and handles disconnected from the frame, but all required hardware and tools for assembly are provided, including a set of 5/16” allen keys + 1/2” x 2-½” button heads bolts for the handles and a 1.5” Monster Wrench for securing the sleeve to the frame.

Key Features of the MG-4CN Narrow Camber Multi-Grip Bar

Loading
1

Narrow, Cambered Frame

The cambered 41” frame has a depth of 3.5” and is built from 1” x 2” 11-gauge steel tubing with 1/4” laser-cut plates and a machined socket. Mounting holes for the handles are 1” on center all along the sides, and the frame is finished in the same soft touch matte black powdercoat as our recently released RM43 line of racks. The cambered shape allows for a greater range of motion when using the outer handles on certain movements (such as bench or rows), and also helps to improve stability and reduce wobbling, as the bar’s center of mass–relative to hand placement–is lower.

Adjustable Knurled Handles

The MG-4CN comes standard with (2) straight knurled grip handles in your choice of a stainless steel or proprietary matte black finish. All handles measure 5” in length and 32mm in outside diameter, making them a bit shorter and thicker than the standard handles on our other MG-4 bars (for this reason, MG-4CN handles are NOT compatible with the other bars in this series). With their threaded design, the handles are conveniently removable and can be positioned anywhere along the bar’s 41” long frame, using the included allen keys for attachment. Functional spacing options range from a minimum or 6” to a max of 26”. Additional handle pairs can be selected in the purchase area (at extra cost), with standard Straight Handle and two Angled Handle options available. Keep in mind, the ideal biomechanical angle for an efficient, safe lift expands as the handles move further apart. Rogue recommends the following handle spacing for Angled Handles when pressing:

20-degree: 26" or 22" spacing
16 degree: 18" or 14" spacing
Straight: 10" or 6" spacing

Additional configurations may work for other movements, as closely spaced angled handles may work well for skull crushers for many athletes.

Barbell Style Sleeves in 2 Length Options

Available in standard (15.5” loadable length) and short (9”) variants, the rackable sleeves on the MG-4CN are built using the same construction methods and components as our Rogue Ohio Bar, producing a smooth rotation. The two quality sleeve finish options (stainless steel and proprietary matte black) also help eliminate paint chipping and maximize the bar’s long-term corrosion resistance.
Please Note: The sleeve assemblies ship disconnected from the frame and can be attached using the included 1.5” Monster Wrench. They can also be removed and replaced, but removal will require additional tools (such as a rubber mallet) and a means of securing the frame in place.

Interlocking Taper Design and Machined Nut

The shaft of the sleeve connects to the frame using an interlocking taper; a staple of the machine tool industry for more than a century. The conical shape of the shaft is inserted into a conical cylinder that, when tightened with the machined hex nut, creates an extremely rigid joint.

Great Bar except the rust inside the bar!
I received this bar a few days ago. Great bar, but the bar is rusty inside! That should not be the case for an expensive barbell This bar is not wobbly at all. Only if you have a weak “grip”(Weak hands/forearms) So improve your grip! In my view this barbell is too expensive. Main reason RUST inside the barbell.Poor quality...

Great stable bar!
These bar is great; it position your shoulder joint in a more natural (neutral) position for a greater push, more range of motion, more comfortable and you can feel greater chest/tricep contraction! It is very stable, i would say 80% stable and 20 unstable. The inestability talks more about your ability incorporate your stability muscles. If you feel it too unstable is because you need to work those weak stability muscles! Both big muscles (pec major, minor) as well as small stability muscle are important to train! Moreover, training small accesory muscle gives you a more solid foundation to put more force in a safer enviroment of the joint! I got the 20mm stainless handle and they are very comfy and perfect knurling!! Get them! It makes the bar’s look stand out!

Great Accessory option for home gym
I got this to increase accessory type bench movements for goal of 315 barbell sets for bodybuilding type activity. I can say 9" sleeves are fine with Olympic 1" plates obviously! I would only consider this narrow camber bar or the alternate Rogue Kabuki Cadillac bar. for this accessory movement. Every bit off center from a narrow grip causes instability and shake with fatigue, so be careful and would humbly recommend this for some volume only.

Highly Recommended
In my opinion Rogue hit a homerun with this one. This bar is solid. The craftmanship is perfect. Longitudinal it is well balance from sleeve to sleeve (meaning one side of the bar is not heavier than the other). Now with that said, it is unstable but not ridiculous unstable when bench pressing. Everything about this camber bar is as advertised. Unless you are using bumper plates, or you are Hercules!... Hercules!... the 9" sleeves should be more than enough. I have the Rogue machined plates and 4 of the 45 lbs. plates will fit with enough room to put a collar at the end of the sleeve. The bar does weight 44 lbs. with just the standard handles. Keep in mind that as you add handles the weight of the bar will increase. I also ordered it with one 20-degree handle kit. That increased the weight of my bar to 47.60 lbs. The only thing is that Rogue should have is different color selections for the frame. I do highly recommend the stainless-steel sleeves version.

Need to add two more holes.
The good: This is a great bar with excellent build quality. Different grip angles with multiple holes for mounting makes it easy to personalize for your needs. Feels great on the shoulders and gives a great chest workout. The option to purchase two sleeve lengths. IMO the short sleeves are the ones to get. There’s plenty of length to load up plates and the shorter length is easier to move into my rack. The bad: The widest set of holes for mounting the grips are to narrow. There was plenty of room so I drilled two more holes on each end. Spaced 1” center to center. This let me mount the 20 degree handles a total of 4” farther apart. Actually, this let me mount all three sets of handles 4 inches apart (two inches on each side). I’m 6’1 and this bar now feels perfect for my shoulder width. Plenty of room between my hand and nut that holds the sleeves. It has ribbed sleeves. This is subjective, but I’m not a fan of ribbed sleeves. They make it harder to slide plates on & off and they make it unnecessarily noisy. Besides, Rogue sells some sweet aluminum locking collars that we all should be using.

Good bar. Poor quality on powered coat.
Bar is barely a month old and rusting in the corners. It does the job but for such an expensive bar you would expect better craftsman ship.
All four corners lost powered coat and rust is starting to form.

Excellent bar
Excellent bar for bad shoulders. Starting to be able to load more weight. There seems much more wobble when empty than when loaded with some weight. Go figure. Different than the earthquake bar - heavier means more instability. Takes some getting used to. I bought the axle collars for these but couldn't close them. Regular Rogue HG collars work fine.
