FLOW

The competition begins with the athlete standing on the ski erg base.

The 2000 meter ski and gym timer may start at the same time when the athlete is ready

  • The monitor needs to be set to count down from 2000 meters to 0
  • Monitor splits need to be set at 500 meters
  • The gym timer is set to count up from 0

Once the athlete completes the 2000 meters, the athlete will need to call out the time showing on the monitor. At this time, the 2 minute rest period starts as the gym timer continues to count up

  • The athlete may not perform any warm up deadlift reps during this rest period
  • The athlete should remain in clear view of the camera for the entire duration of the 2 minute rest period

The athlete will then move to the deadlift bar and prepare for their first lift once the 2 minute rest period ends.

  • The first deadlift rep should start before the end of the 2 minute rest period.
  • Failure to have the bar off the ground by the 2 minute mark may make the score subject to a penalty

The athlete will then complete one set of as many unbroken repetitions as possible while following the approved movement standards outlined below.

MOVEMENTS

Ski:

Athlete starts standing next to the ski erg

  • The skierg should be pre-set to count down from 2000 meters and the splits set to 500 meters
  • The athlete may grab the handles and begin skiing once the timer has started, and must keep skiing holding the handles until the 2000 meters is complete.

Deadlift:

Barbell begins on the floor.

  • This is a traditional deadlift with the hands outside of the knees (Sumo Deadlift is not permitted).
  • Any style of grip is allowed.
  • The bar is lifted to the finishing position where the hips and knees are fully extended with the head and shoulders behind the bar.
  • Once the athlete reaches the required finishing position they may continue completing as many reps as possible.
  • The arms must remain straight throughout each repetition of the lift, with no bouncing of the barbell. Any repetitions where the arms bend and it is judged the athlete is driving the bar into the ground or trying to benefit from bouncing the barbell off the ground will be subject to penalties.
  • Grips of any kind are not allowed
  • The athlete must be at 45 degrees facing the camera to allow the full movement standards to be clearly visible on the video
  • The athlete may rest in the top position of the deadlift but may not rest the weight of the bar on any part of the body/legs to re-grip the bar or release tension from the grip

Any athlete who alters/modifies the equipment or movements described in this document or shown in the video standards may be disqualified from the competition if deemed by the head judges to give an unfair advantage. If any of the above is unclear please email judging@roguefitness.com with your questions with plenty of time.

VIDEO SUBMISSION STANDARDS

All video submissions should be uncut and unedited in order to accurately display the performance. Videos shot with a fisheye lens or similar lens may be rejected due to the visual distortion these lenses cause. Sound should be on during the filming. Be sure the athlete has adequate space to safely complete the movement and clear the area of all extra equipment, people, or other obstructions so that the video is clear.

The video should be shot from a 45 degree angle from the deadlift setup. Critical items that need to be clearly visible on the video.

  1. Scale verification and all equipment to be used being weighed on a digital scale and being measured prior to challenge attempt
  2. Weighing of the athlete, this must include a full view of the athlete on the scale as well as a clearly reading of the display.
  3. The skierg, barbell and gym timer all in one frame
  4. Full range of motion for the athlete on the skierg - showing the screen and verifying 2km time from the skierg memory
  5. Full range of motion for the deadlift including the athlete at set up and the finish position standing to full extension (check movement standards)

The athlete will need to follow the steps outlined below:

  1. The submitted video should start with the entire athlete in frame stating their name, the challenge name, their category (Scaled or RX), and weight division.
  2. The camera should then clearly show all equipment the athlete will use during their challenge attempt. All of the following must be shown:
    • Barbell, to include end caps and clips
    • All weight plates that will be used in their attempt
    • Plates need to clearly have the weights printed on them, and both sides must be displayed to the camera
    • A brief walk around of your Concept2 SkiErg
    • All gear should stay in camera shot during the entire video
  3. The athlete will need to step onto the scale to weigh themselves to confirm their weight group and deadlift load. Once the athlete is on the scale, the camera needs to zoom in to clearly show the scale reading.
    • This process needs to start with showing scale validation by placing a kettlebell/dumbbell on the scale and showing the scale reading is correct.
    • This MUST be done with the athlete wearing all clothing, gear and shoes that will be worn during the competition attempt
    • The athlete should then declare their deadlift load based on standards listed (calculation can be shown to the camera)
    • Men: Deadlift load
RX'D: 200% Bodyweight, rounded to the nearest 5 LB increment
Scaled: 100% of bodyweight, rounded to the nearest 5 LB increment

    Female: Deadlift load
RX'D: 150% of bodyweight, rounded to the nearest 5 LB increment
Scaled: 100% of bodyweight, rounded to the nearest 5 LB increment

  4. The athlete must weigh all plates and barbell on camera.
    • The camera must show each plate on the scale and show the scale reading, the entire scale should be clearly visible to the camera
    • The camera must show the barbell on the scale and show the scale reading
    • Required regardless of equipment brand
  5. The camera should then show the deadlift weight being loaded using the same weighted barbell and plates being loaded. Once loaded, please verbally say/show what each weight is to confirm the load is correct per the standards listed above
  6. The athlete needs to show the camera all supportive equipment they are wearing or will wear for the challenge to confirm it all matches the rules outlined.
  7. Capture rower monitor setup
    • 2000m distance with 500m splits
    • See rules PDF for visual setup by step on this process
  8. The camera should then move to the final filming position. 45 degrees to the deadlift setup with all equipment in full view ready for the workout
  9. When the camera is in its final place and the athlete has taken their starting position on the Skierg base, the athlete may begin skiing their 2000 meters by grabbing the handles at the same time the gym timer begins.
    • Skierg monitor should be preset to meet all requirements mentioned above (refer to set up document)
  10. When the Athlete completes the 2000m ski they must verbally say their time, and the 2 minute rest period begins. During this rest period, the athlete should move to their deadlift position. The athlete must remain in full view of the camera for the entire 2 minute rest period.
    • The camera position should not need to change during this transition
    • The bar should have been loaded to the appropriate weight prior to the start of the skiing portion of the competition
  11. The athlete must start performing deadlift reps prior to the mandatory 2 minute rest period ending.
    • The athlete must have the barbell moving off the floor prior to the end of the 2 minute rest period.
    • If an athlete is deemed to have rested more than 2 minutes, penalties may be applied to final scores
  12. At the conclusion of their single unbroken max rep deadlift attempt, the camera must to be taken to the skierg monitor to clearly show the first 500 meter split time and the total 2000 meter ski time.
    • Please see the rules PDF for step by step instructions for how to show this on your rower monitor if you are not familiar with this process
  13. The video may then conclude.

  • All of the steps above must be done with the camera continuously running for the video to be accepted.
  • Failure to show these steps/items makes the video submission subject to rejection at the judges' discretion
  • Refer to the demo video on the Rogue website for a visual for how the workout and video should flow.
