A familiar shape from the world of Strongman appeared during Event 5 of the 2021 CrossFit Games, as competitors were required to complete a 42-foot sandbag carry using a Rogue Husafell Strongman Bag; inspired by the famous Icelandic lifting stone. Fortunately, these aren’t as heavy as the 400+ LB original (150 LB for women, 200 LB for men), but coming after 4 rope climbs and a 500/400m SkiErg, the carry was no piece of cake, either.
In the end, Patrick Vellner took the event for the men, and Laura Horvath for the women. Appropriately, three Icelandic women also finished in the top 10: Annie Thorisdottir, Katrin Davidsdottir, and Thuri Helgadottir.
