Rogue Athlete Kyle Snyder On His Build Up To The 2024 Olympics

“One thing about me that’s probably different from a lot of people is that I always think I’m gonna win.” As one of the most decorated freestyle wrestlers in history; Kyle Snyder’s outlook is based far more on evidence than arrogance. The former Buckeye needs a trophy case for his trophy cases; as the past decade has seen him collect 3 NCAA Division I Championships; 3 World Championships; 5 Pan American Championships; and a pair of Olympic medals: Gold in 2016 and Silver at the 2020 Games. As he trains for the 2024 Olympics; the 27 year-old Snyder is very calm and systematic in his assessment of what needs to be done; both in terms of qualifying requirements through the rest of 2023 and his own personal mental and physical preparation. “The mindset is really the same every time;” he says. “I’m always gonna do everything I can to be as prepared as I possibly can be. And I’m gonna wrestle at a pace that’s just vicious; that nobody wants to compete against.” The goal isn’t just to get back to the top of the podium in Paris; but to stake a claim as the GOAT of his sport. “I want to be the greatest wrestler of all time . . . the most dominant wrestler of all time. . . . I’m 27 years old; and I feel like I’m just getting started.” The 2023 Wrestling World Championships take place September 16-24 in Belgrade; Serbia; where Kyle will look to defend his 2022 title in the 97KG weight class.
