Fresh off winning her first major title at the 2022 Rogue Invitational in Texas, 25 year-old Laura Horvath has now joined our roster as an official Rogue Athlete.
A model of both consistency and tenacity, Laura has been no stranger to CrossFit fans over the past five years, starting with her historic debut appearance at the CrossFit Games in 2018, when the then 21 year-old Hungarian stunned the crowd in Madison with a runner-up finish in the Individual competition (only Tia-Clair Toomey was able to outperform her). Since then, Horvath has remained a perennial threat in the women’s ranks and one of the most respected athletes in the sport. The past two seasons have particularly stood out, as she’s collected two more podium finishes at the Games (2nd in 2021 and 3rd in 2022) and an emotional triumph at last autumn’s Invitational. Across four long days in Austin, Laura was at the top of her game, winning four consecutive events during one dominant stretch, and ultimately cruising past the great veteran Annie Thorisdottir and youngster Emma Lawson en route to victory.
“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved to compete,” Horvath says, referring to her youth in Budapest, where her parents and siblings helped encourage her passion for sports. When her big brother Kris introduced her to CrossFit in 2014, Laura showed immediate promise, and within two years, the former rock climber had begun her long reign as the Fittest Woman in Hungary. The big remaining goal, of course, is to become the Fittest Woman on Earth.
As Laura has explained it, “Getting close to the top means a new level of pressure. . . . What happens in the moment, that’s the ultimate judgment. But that moment isn’t waiting for you. You have to earn it.”
