Monte Saldo – Iron Game History – January, 1992

One of the most underestimated British performers of the Golden Age of Strength was Alfred Montague Woollaston, better known by his ‘nom de theatre’—Monte Saldo. He was the leading half of the Ronco & Monte duo and was also one of the Montague Brothers, other partners being his brothers Frank and Dewin, sometimes billed as ‘The Montes’. Pictures in Health and Strength circa 1902 showed Monte Senior and Monte Junior (Frank). Monte Saldo was born 1879, son of a Methodist preacher and faith healer in Highgate, London.
