Why I Love Al Thomas – Iron Game History – August, 2008

In the front of nearly every doctoral dissertation there is a page or two on which the author acknowledges the support he or she received while in graduate school. It’s normal to thank your faculty supervisor and the members of your dissertation committee, and most doctoral students then go on to thank spouses, partners, family members, academic colleagues, and other friends. I acknowledged the love and support of a number of friends and family members in my own dissertation when I finished it, but the longest “thank you” was for Al Thomas, who passed away on 17 April 2008 at age 77.
