Assault AirRunner

A New Breed of Treadmill from the Makers of the Assault AirBike.

The Assault AirRunner completely redefines the manual treadmill, offering superior steel construction, dependable stability, and no-limits functionality in a streamlined, energy-efficient design. Few high-performance running machines are as lightweight (280 LBS) and portable (built-in transport wheels) as the AirRunner, and its compact footprint makes it adaptable to just about any type of training space.

Because it’s a motorless treadmill, the AirRunner uses no electricity, running instead on the energy produced by the user’s own movement. Whether you’re a beginner athlete or a competitor at the highest levels, the machine can instantly conform to your desired speed, even if you change your output randomly at will. There is no maximum speed setting—if you want to push your limits during a workout, the AirRunner will be uniquely up to the task.

Assault’s precision design includes not only a solid steel frame and handrails, but corrosion resistant hardware and a durable slatted running surface—built with HIIT (high intensity interval training) in mind. The included AirRunner console keeps you informed on your time, calories burned, distance, speed, watts, and pace, with a number of heart-rate and interval programs available. The absence of a drive motor and lift motor also makes this treadmill easier to clean and maintain than many comparable indoor running machines.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great option for incremental weather, it is harder I'll start with the negatives, outside of price (I purchased mine during the annual spring sale and if you're close to it you should too). Firstly, this is more difficult than running outside. If running on a treadmill is easier because the motor moves the track, this is harder because you (and gravity) push the entire track forward. I'd say it's roughly 20% different which is what they put the calorie differential at. This could be a benefit however as the first fair weather run feels like you're flying, you just have to acclimate to not making your normal times on this machine. Secondly and finally, setting the speed takes getting used to. It's never going to be as easy as a motor that does it for you and there will be times whether walking or running that you feel like it should be going faster or at a more consistent speed. That being said, when you do acclimate to the treadmill and start hitting that mindless sort of stride everything falls nicely into place. Anything else I can say about this treadmill is positive. It's comfortable/shock absorbing and easy on the knees. The curve is just enough to help and feel right but not be annoying or noticeable. And if you live somewhere the weather stops you from getting outside it's incredibly convenient albeit more expensive than a gym. The greatest benefit, being able to push when you want to without entering a speed on a treadmill is better than I expected, especially with the instant feedback. Not only is it incredibly easy but you set the speed by simply running at the speed you want, not guessing what speed you want to run at and waiting for the treadmill to pick it up as you slosh along one handed. While I've had off days where the speed was slower than expected, I've also had really great days where I've run substantially faster than I thought I could on a treadmill. My parents and young children have walked/run on the treadmill as well. My parents don't do a lot of running but they're still tempted to get a similar treadmill. the hand rails are positioned well enough that you don't think about them but you can use them easily. Setup was simple. It's maybe a dozen screws that put the handles on and you're there. The main treadmill below the handles is fully assembled on arrival. There's no real maintenance to it, I have a letter from the manufacturer that says to simply wipe it down when you're done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly Painful I used this all the time at the box I was training out of while I was doing crossfit. As a former collegiate sprinter turned distance runner, this is the only treadmill I have ever enjoyed running on. It does not create the same kind of pressure and abuse on your feet, ankles, and knees that a regular treadmill does. Once I have the money set aside I will be purchasing one of these bad boys!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Built solid, need to get used to the design This thing is solid, built very tough. I’m 280lbs and have no issues on it. Running on it takes getting used to... still not quite there. A great work out for my hamstrings and quads though!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Intervals! Bought this a month or so ago, absolutely love it! Makes running intervals so much more fluid and can do CrossFit workouts with short runs easily! Warning though, it is definitely much harder than running on a normal treadmill and your 400m time isn't probably going to be real good on this thing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect addition to my home gym I had a motorized treadmill that burned out after 10 years. I was looking for something with gym quality to replace it. Because it is motorless I am able to put it wherever I want in my gym. It is a smooth run. I can just hop on and go. My 7 year old loves to jump on and start running. It provides me a safe way to run when it is too dark and the streets are too icy to run up in the Northwoods.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I bought this equipment about a month ago and absolutely love it! As a hard core runner, this is a perfect treadmill alternative!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice treadmill. Speed is off by a lot. Overall the treadmill works great. The only down side is the speed reading is really off on it which makes your distances wrong.
