Concept2 BikeErg

The BikeErg is the latest innovation from the makers of the Concept2 Indoor Rower and SkiErg. Utilizing the same advanced engineering principles and PM5 performance monitor as those time-tested machines, the BikeErg is also lighter in weight than most stationary bikes and closer in feel to actual outdoor riding. The design is built around precision flywheel air resistance, creating a workout customized to any athlete who uses it. As you pedal harder, the intensity and challenge of the workout increases accordingly. At the same time, the inclusion of a clutch lets you freewheel like a standard bicycle, while a wide damper range re-creates the effect of changing gears.

The Concept2 BikeErg is portable, easy to assemble, and designed with an adjustable saddle and handlebars. Users can even decide to attach their own bicycle seat, handlebars or pedals (most styles are compatible) to create the ultimate custom indoor bike.

Rather than a chain, the BikeErg features high-strength, self-tensioning polygroove belts, greatly reducing the sound output and making set-up practical in any room of the house.

Concept 2 Warranty: Frame Parts - Five Year Limited Warranty / All Parts - Two Year Limited Warranty.

What Sets the Concept2 BikeErg Apart:

  • 1PM5 Performance Monitor

Included standard with the unit, the PM5 Performance Monitor offers a wide range of instant data feedback, including pace, watts, cadence (rpm) and calories. These statistics are then saved and stored automatically in the monitor’s memory or an optional USB stick. The PM5 has both Bluetooth and ANT+ wireless options, so you can connect to most wireless heart rate belts, as well as Concept2’s ErgData app and other third party apps. The PM5 takes two D-cell batteries and the power is generated by the flywheel when you ride, saving on battery life.

  • 2Flywheel & Damper

Like the Concept2 Rowers and SkiErg, the BikeErg uses air resistance generated by a fanned flywheel. This makes the machine directly responsive to your own output as you pedal. The inclusion of a special damper also re-creates the effect of shifting gears on a standard bicycle, as the user can alter the amount of air going into the flywheel. By changing settings, you can simulate the experience of a straightaway ride or a challenging uphill climb. The BikeErg is uniquely customizable to the skill sets and preferences of any athlete, regardless of size or experience.

  • 3Quality Construction + Easy Mobility

Few fan bikes can match the BikeErg for precision engineering, durability, and convenient portability. Set-up takes just a matter of minutes, and the unit’s lightweight welded aluminum frame + a set of caster wheels make it uniquely mobile for a so-called “stationary” bike. The use of self-tensioning polygroove belts also greatly reduces the sound output of the bike, making it a viable option for any room in the house.

  • 4Adjustable & Customizable

The BikeErg is designed with an adjustable saddle and handlebars, which can be moved both up-and-down and forward-and-back into a custom, secure setting. Users can even decide to attach their own bicycle seat, handlebars or pedals (most styles are compatible) to create the ultimate custom indoor bike.

  • 5Part of the Concept2 Family of Ergometers

Backed by Concept2’s nearly 40 years as a leading American fitness equipment manufacturer, the BikeErg is a worthy upgrade over an existing stationary bike or a logical addition for a gym already equipped with the popular Concept2 Rower and SkiErg. These machines are all built to last and utilize the same flywheel technology and advanced monitor system to give any athlete an efficient, consistent training experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really smokes the quads I purchased two bike ergs to compliment the other concept2 equipment I already have (ski & rower) as well as the echo bike. The bike ergs really do train the quads like no other equipment I have owned. You will immediately feel blood in the quads. I have had a spinner before and the comparison is night and day. Concept2 PM5 is also flexible and allows a variety of training options through companion apps. The only issue I have had is one of the PM5’s is having issues and I most likely need to send it in for servicing. I hate to do that as the bikes are 2 months old but the PM5 is glitchy. Overall the bike Erg is a must have, you won’t regret it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect except for a few details Probably the most versatile cardio machine in my home gym. If you were setting up a cardio regime, I would suggest getting the BikeErg first, and then the rower. Everyone in the household prefers the bike because of it's ease of use, much lighter intensity, and easier casual use. The rower does provide a better HIIT workout in less time, but requires full commitment when using it. The BikeErg can be used for warming up/cooling down, a decent HIIT workout when needed - and more importantly, casual use. I have the optional Tablet attachment which allows for watching emails, videos, or using fitness apps, and this is where I love the bikErg. It's so easy just to hop on, and do a relaxing 30km for an hour while watching South Park when you're bored. Still, there are some issues that keep this from being a perfect machine; -No easy place to attach a cup holder. I don't like handlebar mounted ones, as I change my workout or position on them quite often. In general I rest the water bottle on the flat portion of the lower support, and am careful not to knock it off. -The seat needs better positioning fore and aft of the pedals. Nearly every other exercise bike in this price category has a greater range of adjustment. You can move the seat about 2 inches forward or back, and adjust its angle slightly - but that's it. This also requires a wrench - so it's not ideal for multiple users. -If you're short (under 5' 4") you might find the seat does not lower enough to accommodate you properly. Tough luck shorties. -The rubber belt drive, while quiet and maintenance free also appears to heat up and become more elastic after a 1/2 hour of use. I find there is a little "snatch" like a chain skipping a tooth. It's hard to describe, but there is a point in the crank cycle where it feels you are not engaging the fan directly, and only stretching the belt when you push hard. I'm still using the included factory pedals, as multiple people in my household share the bike. This might be less of an issue with clip-ons. Perhaps there is an adjustment for belt tension I need to look at. -It's far easier just to program the computer manually for intervals - while doing the intervals. I like to have a dynamic workout to tweak to my pace. The effort required to manually enter in each leg - BEFORE a workout - only to find out you made a small mistake when entering it during a workout is frustrating. The interface is clunky, but it is part of what keeps C2 brand loyalty by having backwards compatibility with older machines. -It's louder than a magnetic bike or some friction types for sure - but that's the nature of a fluid resistance Erg. Using sound cancelling headphones is the best option I've found for listening duties while in use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth & Great Workout We bought the bike erg to compliment our rower and gym set-up. So glad we did. Such an easy and smooth ride, while getting a great workout - and watching my favourite TV shows. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bike I bought this bike erg a couple months ago and love it. I wanted a lower body only cardio piece, which is what made me select this over assault bike. The bike is great for both intervals and longer rides. Very happy with the purchase and would highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for LISS or HIIT Great bike for hopping on and losing yourself while burning those calories or training indoors when the weather is not so cooperative. The seat will require you to have cushioned shorts if you plan on riding over 30 minute sessions though. The only complaint I have would be that I wish there were a way to adjust the resistance while remaining upright without having to slow down to do so. Great for longer steady state sessions to boost endurance.
