Movement Demo – Rhino Belt Squat

Rogue athlete Jeff Adler demonstrates proper form for a Rhino Belt Squat in this quick and simple movement demo from Rogue HQ.

A belt squat is a piece of equipment that builds leg strength by using a hip belt attachment to load weight below the waist, allowing athletes to squat with resistance without placing any direct load on the spine.

The Rogue Belt Squat Machine is called the Rogue Monster Rhino Belt Squat.

Benefits

  • Increased stability during the exercise due to the low centre of mass
  • More accessible and safer to use for people who are new to squatting or have shoulder limitations
  • Gives you the ability to build leg strength while minimizing stress placed on the spine, therefore making the belt
  • squat potentially safer than traditional barbell squatting
  • Can be used safely with high volume work or pushing to failure, spotting handles give extra confidence to the lifter.

Movement Breakdown
Start Position

  • Add required load while the Rhino Horn is in place
  • Clip into the belt, it should sit around the hips, just ontop of the glutes, stand with the belt lifting the load
  • Move feet to squatting position – heels around shoulder width, toes slightly pointing out
  • Release the Rhino Horn

Execution

  • Squat – brace the core and then send the hips back and down
  • Keep the chest as tall as possible
  • Once the target depth is reached, drive through the heels to stand.
  • Aim to keep the knees inline with the angle of the feet throughout the squat
  • The handles can be used for support / self spotting, but for an extra challenge try to keep the chest tall while
  • squatting and do not hold the handles
  • Once standing tall, engage the Rhino Horn and safely unclip from the belt.
