I once heard a man say that merely to talk about deep breathing was a tonic, that there was something in the expression that stongly suggested strength and vitality. Instinctively we all know, even though we may have but little knowledge of the body, that “air is life.” Shallow breathers are bound to be weak and easily fatigued, while deep, rhythmic respiration generally indicates superior physical powers.
