The Mat – Strength Magazine – January, 1924

There is a great difference between the chest-expansion which comes from filling the lungs with air, and the combined lung-and-muscular-expansion, such as you see demonstrated by vaudeville artists in “Strong Acts.” Whenever you find a widespread popular belief, you will also find that there is some very good basis for it. If you will discuss the subject with ten of your friends, you will learn that at least nine of them firmly believe that a man with a big chest expansion has not only more endurance, but considerably more physical strength, than the man with the small expansion.
