The shape of the bony framework of the chest and upper part of the back is pretty well determined at the age of 24. Round shoulders are, in reality, a round back clue to the shape of the individual bones of the spine and the cartilages between them. A lateral x-ray picture of such a back will show several vertebra narrower than normal in front, thus increasing the physiologic curve in this region. The spine below often shows an excessive hollowing of the back. It usually has some anatomic condition as a basis, rather than a so-called faulty posture.
