Editorial: Why Be a Spectator? – Strength Magazine – May, 1925

One of the big troubles with athletes in this country is that on Saturday afternoons we have approximately twenty people watching sports for each person actually taking part in, them. Of course the average man cannot go home from a football game, gather together a team of his friends and start a game of his own on the nearest back lot. Football, baseball, track athletics and many other organized sports require training, equipment and time, in such quantities that it is not possible for anyone to make up his mind to play and then just go ahead and play.
