How To “Chin Yourself” With One Hand – Strength Magazine – September, 1917

Every man and boy has practiced “chinning” the bar. This is probably the best-known test of arm strength. in the feat, as ordinarily performed, the athlete jumps up and grasps the horizontal bar with both hands, hangs for a moment at arms’ length, and then by bending his arms, draws his body upwards until his chin is on a level with the bar. You do not have to have a horizontal bar, because you can perform the feat on a horizontal branch of a tree, or a pair of rings, or even on the top of a door-frame.
