It was ten years and more ago that Honus Wagner, then king of National League sluggers, and with only the great Napoleon Lajoie in the American League as a rival, called attention to the fact that there is an art, a real science of the slugger, just as much as there is of the sharpshooting hitter of the Willie Keeler and Ty Cobb type.
