Product Description

The Marrs-Bar is a new variation on the traditional safety squat bar, designed to limit the axial load on the neck and back and reduce direct stress on the spine, shoulders, hips, and knees. It’s great for athletes rehabbing from an injury or dealing with limited mobility, but it’s equally effective for helping healthy lifters improve their comfort and stability, leading to greater gains and fewer injuries. Use it for hands-free back squats, front squats, lunges, good-mornings, and more.

By redistributing weight like a "backpack" through the built-in harness padding, the Marrs-Bar won’t sit on or pinch the neck and cervical spine like some other bars on the market. Instead, athletes are able to load more weight and focus on their form, rather than their discomfort.

Great bar, poor quality, worse customer service
I love the bar, it does what it says it will. However the manufacturer's customer service and warranty are terrible. I had the bar less than six months and the padding was already splitting, see the photos, mind you I've been the only one to use it, and it was splitting after fewer than 10 sessions. Contacted Rogue, who contacted the manufacturer, who claims this is normal wear and tear, and will send a vinyl cover (no eta, so who knows if they will) instead of sending me a new bar. The original was padding with a vinyl cover before they went to this configuration and clearly they neglected to run it through quality testing. I won't be buying anything from them again.
Crack in the padding after less than 10 sessions
Close up of the crack that the manufacturer calls wear and tear after less than 10 sessions in 6 months.

I was having shoulder problems and squatting was difficult. The Marrs bar was the solution, squatting is enjoyable again and with this bar I can front squat again too.

Not bad, but not great
Finally got the bar assembled (after the sleeves did not ship with the original package, and had to be sent a couple of weeks later). It came a bit beat up (plastic handles both cracked, some nicks and dings), but it’s workout gear and will get hacked up. More importantly: sleeves are just connected with a hex bolt, and do not rotate freely like an Olympic bar. Maybe this doesn’t matter as you’ll only be doing squats, but this wasn’t immediately obvious to me before I bought it. I would have much preferred it ship with the sleeves securely and industrially attached. The bar feels “ok” on your back. I personally didn’t feel like I could squat without holding onto the handles (as many videos show folks doing)—it felt like it would rotate off my back unless I hinged forward deeper than I normally would for a squat. Overall, I got this because of an injured shoulder and I think it will help keep squatting more safely than with the janky strap setup I had been using on a normal barbell, but I am not sure I’d buy this bar again.

Best decision ever
At 50 years old, I’ve got my share of aches and pains… Add a couple meniscus tears / knee surgeries (2005/2022) and I’d pretty much written off squats with any kind of weight.. Purchased the bar hoping for improved comfort and the ability to keep my hands free… just in case… After a couple months of use, I’m happy to report that the bar feels incredible and I have been able to squat without the same knee discomfort, improve my range of motion and have begun to increase weight… really pleasant surprise… The bar has an incredible feel and has really allowed me to keep squats in my routine!

Amazing bar - works for both front and back squats
Much better than traditional SSB - easier to maintain proper position for those of us with bad shoulders. Super effective for both low-bar, high-bar, and front squats. Use mine every leg day - wouldn't be as strong without it

Fantastic function, horrible quality control
After working for 10 months to improve shoulder mobility, I finally gave up and bought a Marrs Bar. Squating is a dream now. I chose the Marrs bar because I wanted to continue with low bar squatting and the Marrs bar is about the only option for that. It had gotten to the point where I couldn't do any upper body lifts. My shoulders aren't hurting for the first time in almost a year. The balance is a little weird, but it should actually be helpful in the end. Rogue was the cheapest total cost I found including tax and shipping, surprisingly. Thanks for being awesome! Now for the bad: quality control on this bar needs to be completely revamped. Unlike the product info pic, they are now powder coating the shaft with black. This is a great idea, but the implementation is extremely poor. When I opened the box, I noticed white specs all over the powder coated shift. These are all raised bumps of powder that can be scratched off with finger nails, leaving a bare steel spot and a bunch of powder. That this got past everyone in the factory is mind blowing. Do they not care that their product looks like garbage? This is an expensive bar and it shouldn't have such ridiculous blemishes on a finished product shipped to a paying customer. That said, it doesn't effect the function of the bar, so I won't be addressing this issue other than this review. I'll probably have to do extra maintenance to prevent rust, but I was expecting a bare shift anyway, so no big deal. Bottom line is that I'm happy with the purchase despite the pathetic, failed attempt at powder coating the bar. I would recommend the bar to anyone who has exhausted their attempts at shoulder mobility but wants to continue low bar squatting.
