The Ohio Bar - Stainless Steel

The new stainless steel version of our 20KG Rogue Ohio Bar is machined and assembled in Columbus, Ohio, and features a 200,000 PSI tensile strength shaft, chrome sleeves, and an exclusive Rogue knurl pattern that’s 100% in its original, machined form for an unmatched feel.

With quality bronze bushings and dual knurl marks, the Stainless Steel Ohio Bar is optimized for both Olympic lifts and Powerlifting—delivering a firm but non-abrasive grip, a consistent spin, and a unique balance of whip and rigidity.

We call it the Ohio Bar because we think it represents more than just the Rogue brand. It’s a testament to where we work, who we are, and the pride we feel in making the best weightlifting bars on the market.

Available Sleeve Finishes: Chrome, Stainless Steel, Proprietary Matte Back

Note on Stainless Steel: Barbells made from raw steel are not plated and therefore marks from the machining process may be visible. Stainless steel shafts will show CNC processing marks. These are cosmetic and will not impact the barbell's performance

KEY FEATURES OF THIS OHIO BAR:

Loading
1

Steel

This high tensile strength steel is manufactured in the USA and has proven to be one of the best steel variants for a multi-purpose barbell. Each barbell shaft is ground and polished prior to machining, allowing for a very smooth finish.

2

Machining

Every bar shaft is machined in Columbus, Ohio. A great deal of pride is built into each bar as the knurling process is an art. We spent months working on the knurl we believe to be the best for the Ohio Bar.

To test the knurl it is more a beer tasting process than exact measurement. There is a look and feel that go into testing every bar.

The Look & Feel of Stainless Steel

With no plating, the knurl on the Stainless Steel Ohio Bar is left exactly how we machined it, providing a great feel that cannot be achieved with other finishes. It’s similar to the knurl feel from a bare steel shaft, but with better corrosion resistance. The combination of a stainless steel shaft and chrome sleeves also creates a sharp look with few equals. Please Note: Rogue recommends using a synthetic bristle brush, NOT a steel brush, to clean a stainless steel shaft. Steel on steel can cause rusting over time. See more tips here: Bar Care & Maintenance.

Assembly

The Ohio Bar is assembled with bronze bushings, which act as bearing surfaces between the bar sleeve and bar shaft. This is a very robust way of building a barbell, and can produce a smooth, consistent spin not possible with lesser import bars. Each bar comes with an “Ohio Bar Card” that has the initials of the Rogue team member that built it.

Performance

The multi-purpose Ohio Bar will have normal “whip” during Olympic weightlifting and enough stiffness to hold for heavy Powerlifting. The steel in this bar is proven as an excellent choice for weightlifters.

F SCALE™

The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.

OXIDATION RATE

The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.

*Warranty against bending does not cover any bar which has been damaged due to negligent or faulty use, alteration, maintenance, storage or handling by the user. Negligent or faulty use includes abusive dropping of the bar (i.e., dropping the bar on a box, bench, spotter arms or pins in a power rack, excessive dropping with insufficient or damaged bumpers, or excessive dropping with iron plates, and similar usage). Any specific issues regarding a Rogue product with which a customer is not satisfied will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We have found that most problems with bars we replace are related to abusive use rather than manufacturing or materials issues.

Whichever barbell finish you choose, Rogue has provided some helpful tips for long term Bar Care & Maintenance.

Absolutely love it!
I made the decision to upgrade to this bar after using a cheap one from Dicks Sporting Goods for years and not realizing the difference a good bar makes.. After one workout in a friends home gym with a Rogue bar, I was made well aware of the difference and purchased one of my own the very next day!

Solid barbell. Great color
Very happy that I upgraded to this barbell. I especially like the ribbed ends that keep the plates on without a collar. A added bonus for sure! Solid feel, great knurling. I use it about 5 days a week and each time it feels like new.

Great bar overall
Bought this bar in black oxide, love the bar but not wild about the coating... but that's not on Rogue, more my own misconceptions of what black oxide as a surface treatment does. I had assumed it would be fairly corrosion resistant but, after a bit of research, it is only very very minimally so... black oxide is more cosmetic than protective really. So, you'll need to maintain it almost as frequently as a raw steel bar, but it does look great and work great. In hindsight, I should've gone for the cerakote option but I'm not at all disappointed with the bar's performance or appearance, it'll just take a little more upkeep than I was hoping for on an outside setup but it isn't wet enough in Southern California to be more than a mild inconvenience. Also, on a side note, regarding the guy complaining about the cerakoting coming off after soaking in white vinegar... that's literally how you remove cerakote. Soak it in vinegar and it'll destroy the bond between the coating the metal and it will flake, on a gun or anything else. White vinegar isn't quite as acidic as others but "soaking" it was a bad move... at most, a spray from a bottle, quick scrub, and immediate wipe down with re-application of 3 in 1 would've been the move, but soaking it is what caused your coating to deteriorate and come off, not Rogue's quality control.

Awesome bar!
Last week I received this bar and wow am I impressed. Delivery was fast, packaging was great and the bar looks amazing and is of high quality. I have used many barbells in gyms and previous home gyms, and this is by far the best barbell I have used. If you are looking for a quality bar, this is the one for you. Read a few questionable reviews, but I am very happy with this purchase. Great product from Rouge. Keith

Black Oxide Buyer Beware. It WILL rust!
Black Oxide is no better than raw steel. This bar began to rusting after the very first use and continues to rust. We clean the bar after each use and condition with nylon brush and 3&1 oil and the bar continues to rust in the high contact areas but also on the sleeves. Product page is very misleading. In all fairness I have two other Ohio bars and they are problem free.
Rusting on sleeve after first use.
Rusting on knurling after first use.

Response from Rogue Fitness:

Each Ohio Bar finish offers a different level of oxidization protection and has a direct effect on the feel of the knurl. Black Oxide is a mild oxidization protectant process. This type of steel treatment will still require some maintenance but will give the best knurl feel, more like a naked bar.

Slight disappointment
This is my 7th rogue barbell I have purchased. It is the only one I have had a mild disappointment with. The knurks are the perfect blend of grip without cutting into my hands. The barbell seems to have a decent whip and being from Pittsburgh whats not to like about black and gold. The only downside is the friction with putting on the weights. Rogue has told me this bar is slightly different then the other bars I have purchased and it is intentionally sticky to hold the plates more securely. I collar everything so the stickiness is more annoying then useful for me personally.

Very Happy
I bought this a few weeks ago and I couldn’t be happier! I have been using a very old generic bar for years. Honestly I never thought there was any difference. After reading many of these reviews I decided to bite the bullet and purchase one! I was very surprised at just how much of a difference I could tell between the 2 bars. Obviously the look but the feel! The bushing on my old bar were so worn out and I just thought it felt “normal” to me at least . Until i did some clean jerks, and wow what a difference. Packaging was great, shipping was even better. Very very happy with this purchase.
