The Ohio Bar - E-Coat

The latest variation of our flagship Rogue Ohio Bar introduces a new, Black E-Coat shaft finish. This electrically applied coating was first popularized in the auto industry for its reliable coverage, adhesion, and corrosion resistance, and it’s gained even wider favor for its environmental benefits, producing little to no HAPS (Hazardous Air Pollutants) or VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds).

Like all Ohio Bars, the E-Coat model is fully machined and assembled in Columbus, Ohio. It includes a 190,000 PSI tensile strength shaft, dual knurl marks (no center knurl), and bright zinc sleeves. The hybrid knurling pattern offers a firm but comfortable grip on both Powerlifts and Oly lifts, while a snap-ring design, quality U.S. steel, and bronze bushings help produce the perfect balance of rigidity and natural whip.

Rogue Machining and Assembly

Made with pride in Columbus, Ohio, the 20 KG Ohio Bar has been put to use for years in home gyms; high school, collegiate and pro training programs; CrossFit gyms; military bases . . . anywhere athletes are concerned with quality. Each 190,000 PSI tensile strength steel shaft is ground and polished prior to machining to ensure a better finish, and the dual knurl marks are carefully refined for a firm but non-abrasive grip. The snap ring design, bronze bushings, and quality U.S. steel help produce an ideal combination of the consistent “whip” needed for Oly lifts and the ample rigidity required for heavy powerlifting.

E-Coat Finish

The black electrocoat, or E-Coat shaft finish on this Ohio Bar is an electrically-applied paint coating noted for its excellent corrosion resistance, cost efficiency, and green benefits. It has been widely adopted by leading manufacturers for the finishing of auto parts, metal stampings, fasteners, lawn/garden & agricultural equipment, military equipment, and much more. E-Coat finishes stand up to water, sunlight, and household chemicals, and they are compliant with the environmental safety standards of the RoHS, OSHA and EPA.

F SCALE™

The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.

OXIDATION RATE

The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.

*Warranty against bending does not cover any bar which has been damaged due to negligent or faulty use, alteration, maintenance, storage, or handling by the user. Negligent or faulty use includes abusive dropping of the bar (i.e., dropping the bar on a box, bench, spotter arms or pins in a power rack, excessive dropping with insufficient or damaged bumpers, or excessive dropping with iron plates, and similar usage). Any specific issues regarding a Rogue product with which a customer is not satisfied will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We have found that most problems with bars we replace are related to abusive use rather than manufacturing or materials issues.

Red Cerakote / Black Sleeves
I had the red cerakote / black sleeve bar for about 6 weeks now in the home gym. I thought (for some unknown reason) that the "Proprietary Matte Black" sleeves would hold up better than cerakote sleeves. I was very wrong. First plate I put on the sleeve scraped off the coating. Now after 6 weeks of use, they are worn considerably. I don't like it, but don't really care too much either. Just wanted to let anyone who may think this Proprietary Matte Black finish will hold up, it won't. I want the Chan bar as well but I'll go with chrome sleeves on that one. Other than that, it's a great bar. The red cerakote looks awesome. Knurling is fairly passive but I like having it in the gym.

$400 Coated Bar being Ground away
Let me start off with, I have rogue pretty much everything. Rack, Weights, Bella Bar for the wife, etc I bought this bar a week ago, to replace a different brand that rusted over. I was excited to get this bar, because I know the quality that I normally get. The problem is the coating on the ends where the plates slide on and off. I don't know if they added too much or the bar itself is out of spec, but I can barely put on or take off a ROGUE BRAND RUBBER PLATE. The point of the coating was so I didn't have another rusted bar, but its just grinding on and off every time I put on weight. So what was the point of paying this much for a defective bar, that already has it coating ruined? The woman's bar that I have has the same black oxide coating for the ends and I have zero issues with that one. I am attaching a picture. very disappointed overall with this purchase

Thank you for posting! Our Proprietary Matte Black metal treatment process also hardens the steel, which can cause some additional friction with plates that have a chamfer. These sleeves should be able to be wiped down with no issue. Our team is reaching out now to confirm.

Cerakote not worth it
When I received this bar the packaging was badly damaged, like the bar could slide right out of the tube. The coating was damaged upon arrival but it is functionally good. The bar has really good knurling and spin.

Well made, high quality barbell
Just wanted to throw in my 5 stars for this barbell. I got the blue cerakote and it has held up very well over the last 3 years. I didn’t know much about gym equipment at the time and a Rogue employee recommended I get the regular Ohio bar. He was right. This all around bar is good for bench/shoulder pressing, squats, and deadlifts. The knurling is just right for me without chalk, but I don’t lift heavy. I like how there is no knurling in the middle so that I can comfortably do front squats and shoulder press (in case I accidentally brush my chin). All in all, I highly recommend this bar.

The Best There Is
Debated on spending $350+ on a barbell for my garage gym but I'm so glad I did. I've lifted with dozens of different types of barbells and this isn't even close. The knurling is insane and I still haven't even used chalk after a week cleaning, snatching, etc. I've seen a few reviews complaining about the plates not sliding on and off easily, I don't mean to be sarcastic or rude but that's kinda the point. Even without clips the plates don't run far when lifting. If your goal is high volume and heavy lifts then this is the bar for you. Also all black is mean looking.

Fantastic features, clearly the best in the indust
Where do I start? I purchased a full set of plates and the Ohio zinc bar from Rogue. I ordered these at the recommendation of a friend of mine who had great experiences with Rogue gear. My wife and I created a home gym due to the crazy gym membership prices where we live, and while Rogue isn't the least expensive option available, their quality speaks volumes. I ordered the zinc Ohio bar with a set of deep dish 45s, 35s, and 25s, plus 10s, 5s, and 2.5s. The quality is superb and I can tell this is a set that will last several years and hundreds of workouts! If I ever become strong enough to buy more weight, Rogue will be my first stop. Big thanks to the Rogue team on their craftsmanship.

Functional Bar; Poor Cerakote Application
Purchased this two years ago and after about 1-2 months, noticed some rusting in the areas where my hands are typically for deadlifts/cleans. I thought that if I kept oiling the bar every 3-4 weeks, I would mitigate the rusting and the areas wouldn’t get worse. The bar stays in the garage, is brushed regularly to prevent chalk from sitting on it too long, and only has one user. I understand that the humidity here in TX doesn’t help but I expected better out of a rogue barbell. I am very disappointed with the quality of the cerakote coating. Now, I can’t let the bar go longer a couple before the rust gets really bad on it. We bought the junior barbell that has the black zinc coating around the same time and there is no rusting. Doesn’t make sense unless there was a bad application of the cerakote.
