The Rogue Axle - Powdercoated

Rogue Axle

Deceptively Simple Grip Training

A collaborative effort between the Rogue team and Rob Orlando of Hybrid Athletics, the powder-coated, 1.9” diameter Rogue Axle offers athletes an effective change of pace for any lifting regimen, promoting greater wrist and grip strength. The bar measures 84" in total length, with 15.5” of loadable sleeve length and 52” between the collars.

From presses to rows to deadlifts, the Axle makes for a more challenging but ultimately more beneficial workout, emphasizing the muscles in the hands in a way standard bars can’t. It’s the same principles that have made fat bars an essential part of the modern Strongman training arsenal. A more compact 5’ version of this bar, the Stubby Axle, is also available.

IMPORTANT: Some standard barbell collars may not work on this specialty bar. We recommend using either the Rogue HG Axle Collars, Red OSO Axle Collars or PROLOC™ Strongman Collars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality This is awesome for pressing and grip strength training. Without knurling, it can be quite difficult with even moderate weight overhand deadlift and it will take your clean and press to a new level.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid I’ve had this axle about a month so far and love to mess around with it. After training with a barbell for years, it’s nice to switch it up for a different element. It also seems like a solid product that will last forever.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value Great value overall but competely devoid of any markings of any sort so a bit of a hassle trying to find your grip...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it, but not pretty. I have big hands and the axle bar just feels so much better than a normal barbell. Unfortunately, the powder coating is mediocre. Parts of the coating had already flaked off during shipping. I could understand if I dropped it, banged it or otherwise was rough using the bar, but powdercoat damage in shipping? Really?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid change of pace bar Bought this a month ago so my box would have it to prepare for events. Works well and does the job!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value for those starting out When I was getting back into lifting a few years back, I didn't have a lot of spare cash to blow on gear, but I wanted to be able to lift at home. I decided to get the axle rather than a standard barbell mainly because it was cheaper. Aside from the lower price, I think this is especially well suited for beginners because you will develop your grip strength from the beginning. It also prevents you from jumping up in weight too fast because your grip will be more of a limiting factor. I also did not have money for a rack at that time, but luckily the axle is very comfortable for zercher squats, so those were my main squats for a year. I eventually picked up an Ohio Power Bar (which is really great), but I still frequently use the axle and never regret having it. In terms of improvements, it would be great if Rogue could add some grip marks (even if just painted) like on a standard barbell. I use tape to achieve this, but it comes off over time and it's annoying to have to measure and reapply.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Functional bar for purpose, with design flaws. From the outset, let me say that I love Rouge for their company ethos, their products and the courage to try new things. This Bar is one of their things that in all honesty isn't the best in regards to COSMETIC durability - but it is strong and functional. As you can see in my attached pictures, the power coating on the sleeves is really as bad idea - this is after 2 months of use (Purchased Now 2017) But in looking at all of the Rouge products I've bought, this is really the only one I would say is below Rogues usual 10/10 score for build, fit and finish of all other products I have. I'd still recommend it as it really is a bar for a specific purpose, but I hope in future they may change the finish on the sleeves (I don't know how hard this is, because I'm not a metal worker, builder, designer etc..)
