Matt Chan
Matt Chan is a true Rogue original—a CrossFit legend, ambassador, and educator who’s helped shape the sport from its early years, inspiring countless athletes who’ve followed in his path.
A longtime Colorado firefighter, Matt discovered CrossFit in his late 20s as a way to improve his endurance on the job. What started as functional training quickly evolved into a competitive journey that saw him earn five Top 10 finishes at the CrossFit Games, including a 2nd-place finish in 2012. With his approachable demeanor, deep knowledge, and relentless drive, Matt became one of the sport’s most respected and well-liked figures.
Known for his resilience, Matt made his Games debut in 2007 at the age of 29 and went on to compete at seven consecutive Games, winning six Regional titles along the way. In 2014, he survived a devastating bike accident that nearly ended his career—and left his ability to walk in question. But true to form, he came back once again, placing in the Top 10 at the 2015 Southwest Regionals. He’s also taken on endurance challenges outside CrossFit, including competing in the prestigious Leadville Trail 100 MTB bike race.
In 2020, Matt proved he wasn’t done competing just yet—qualifying for and ultimately winning Season 2 of Dwayne Johnson’s Titan Games, taking home the $100,000 grand prize. “It felt great to compete again,” he said. “Once I got back in that frame of mind, it was fun. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
