Rogue Manta Ray Adjustable Bench

Rogue’s Manta Ray Adjustable Bench introduces a new ladder-style, internal adjustment system that produces a clean aesthetic with fewer components than our Adjustable Bench 3.0 and even more incline/decline positions. Five seat settings (from -20 degrees to 30 degrees) and 10 back pad settings (0-85 degrees) give athletes 50 different potential configurations at their disposal, with laser-cut markings identifying each angle position in the steel tube.

We’ve also developed a new front foot construction—shaped like a manta ray—which preserves the advantages of a 3-leg bench design while ensuring greater overall stability when in the decline position. A round injection molded handle is built into this front foot, as well, making it easier to elevate and roll the 140LB unit via the included set of premium caster wheels.

A removable foot catch is available as an optional add-on, providing security for the user’s feet during decline movements.

Note: The Foot Catch from the AB-3 Adjustable Bench is not compatible with the Manta Ray.

The soft, durable pad on the Manta Ray Bench is a wider 12” (compared to 11” on the Adjustable Bench 3.0) and includes a grabber-style vinyl (the same vinyl used on our Thompson Fat Pad) exterior for a secure feel. With a minimal 1” gap between the seat pad and the back pad, athletes can program their functional presses and arm movements through a full range of inclines without dealing with the discomfort of a disjointed bench. Quality rubber feet are included standard, and a protective UHMW panel prevents the frame or bench pad from contacting the ground when the unit is stored upright. The steel frame is finished in an MG Black Powdercoat, with more colorway options coming soon.

Please Note: The Manta Ray Adjustable Bench is a bolt-together unit and ships disassembled to allow for a reduced, flat rate shipping cost. It will require the following tools (not included) for proper assembly:

  • 3/4” Wrench or Socket
  • 7/32” Hex key / Allen wrench

New Ladder-Style Adjustments

The base of the Manta Ray Bench is our most streamlined to date, with adjustments made easily via a new ladder system that’s internal to the tube, minimizing the total number of parts involved. As an incline + decline weight bench, this model also offers more configuration options than any other Rogue bench, with 5 seat positions and 10 back pad positions, all indicated by laser-cut markings along the steel tube:

Seat Angles: -20, 0, 10, 20, and 30 degrees

Back Pad Angles: 0, 20, 30, 37.5, 45, 52.5, 60, 67.5, 75, and 85 degrees

Quality Rogue Construction, Superior Stability

Shaped like a manta ray (hence the name), the bench’s innovative front foot design improves the overall stability of the unit when used in the decline position, while still maintaining the benefits of a 3-leg format; namely, minimum interference with the athlete’s feet when benching. Each bench is manufactured in the USA, and includes a 3x4” 7-gauge steel frame with a Medium Gloss Black finish (more colorways coming soon), laser-cut Rogue branding, and a set of custom rubber feet for floor protection. The unit weighs in at 140 LBS and fills a 57” x 24.75” footprint. As a bolt-together bench, some assembly is required. A 3/4” Wrench or Socket and 7/32” Hex key / Allen wrench will be needed (not included).

A removable foot catch is also available as an optional add-on, providing security for the user’s feet during decline movements.

Note: The Foot Catch from the AB-3 Adjustable Bench is not compatible with the Manta Ray.

Portability and Storage

Along with a convenient set of premium caster wheels, the Manta Ray Adjustable Bench comes with an injection molded handle built into the front foot, making it easier to elevate and roll the entire unit to a new location. Like our Adjustable Bench 3.0, the Manta Ray can also be stored in an upright position, with no need for an add-on bracket. When folded into this position, the unit sits on protective UHMW padding, preventing any direct metal contact or creasing of the bench pad.

Wider Pad + Minimal Pad Gap

The Manta Ray Bench comes with a new version of our standard pad, measuring 12” wide (compared to the 11” standard pad on the Adjustable Bench 3.0) and featuring a grabber-style vinyl exterior. The gap between the seat and back pad is roughly 1 inch, allowing athletes to program their functional presses and arm movements through a full range of inclines without dealing with the discomfort of a disjointed bench.

Great sturdy bench
This bench is a tank but it's pretty easy to roll around on the wheels. I have been working out 8 years in lots of places and this has been the best bench I have used. The pad is just soft enough that you can dig your back into it when benching to feel very stable. Only minus is the material they use gets prints on it pretty easy but it brushes off and it's purely cosmetic. I did notice the stitching in some spots were a little loose. This hasn't caused any issues yet but we will see how the stitching holds up over a year of use that is my only real complaint.

Amazing upgrade! Shipped faster than promised
I had the rogue AB3 bench and upgraded to the manga ray. Totally worth it! Amazing bench. Super easy to put together. Very stable. Even though it is heavy, it is easier to move than my AB3. It shipped AND arrived in 6.5 weeks—earlier than promised.

Initial review
Just wanted give you my initial impressions of the bench as there isn’t much out there yet. Just going to try and cover a few of the things others didn’t mention. I’ve purchased many things from Rogue, but this only my second bench from them. An original Rogue flat bench was my first. I’ve owned a few used commercial adjustable benches off the used market, though. Packaging was outstanding. These boxes are specifically made for these benches as there are some molded foam pieces made to fit this bench. Added a pic for reference. It’s heavy and expensive. Total cost shipped to VA was $1341.00 (including the $200 sit-up attachment). It’s easy for me to move, but my smaller wife found it a bit cumbersome. Adjusting the bench back down to a flat position with the sit-up attachment was also a bit difficult for her. The bench is rock solid, though. I’m 305lbs and sit-ups are like it’s bolted to the floor. The sit-up attachment is a spring loaded quick release system. It’s very easy to attach and use. The bench can’t be moved (rolling) with the pads attached in the flat position (pads hit the floor when you lift to engage the wheels). The gap isnt bad, but you will notice it a bit if you’re using that end of the bench in the flat position and sit directly on it I think I read another reviewer mention the lift handle was metal….it is not, it’s plastic. The seat lift handle is metal, though. They should’ve made the lift handle the same as it would’ve given an already very expensive bench a better fit and finish feel. Don’t get me wrong, it’s the best bench I’ve ever used (including commercial gym benches I’ve used), it just seems strange they used metal on one and plastic on the other. The pad is simply awesome from a performance standpoint - zero movement once you’re set. Much more grip than the standard pad. My only gripe (very minor) is that it picks up dirt, etc very easily. The photo with the stripes was just from my fingers dragging across the pad. Wipes down nicely with cleaner and a rag. That’s about for now. Will definitely do a follow-up review after a few months. Was expensive, but no buyer’s remorse on this one. Worth the money.

Great heavy FID bench!
I ordered this bench when they released it and it was worth the wait. I have an adjustable 2.0 and this was worth the upgrade. The pad is the same as the rogue como fat pad. It is very sticky but it scratches easily and you can see dirty easily as well. The bench came in 4 boxes (including foot catch) and the hardware was already pre installed so assembling back together was pretty easy except for that hinge with the two bushings where you need to tie together the bench pad with the tapper pad. It was very hard to tighten that screw and not sure if bushings and a bolt was the way to go. The foot catcher can be installed all the way around if you want to use it for Nordic curls as well. It only has one hole so there is no adjustments. It is heavy and the wheels make it roll very smoothly. Bench pad is soft and not hard as their standard/premium pad but not as soft as the fat pas which is great for me.

You better be in shape before purchasing.
This thing is solid as a rock, but at 160lbs with foot catch, you better already be in shape if you are moving it a lot! My old bench was only 33lbs. If you want the best, than this is it! Also, I found that the wall mount Matador hanger works well for the foot catch and my old bench hanger works well for the TF-1 tib trainer.

High Quality
I received my Manta Ray Bench and Foot catcher on 6/22. Tested it on 6/23 with a chest day. Gripper vinyl is a huge upgrade for me coming from my OG rogue flat bench I purchased around a decade ago. I did not get my typical shoulder pain I would get while benching on my flat bench. One thing that impressed me right away was how well Rogue packaged these pieces. It came in 4 boxes (foot catcher was one) and even though one box was slightly damaged, there was zero damage on my items. Again, this is the best packaged item I have ever received from Rogue, so kudos to them for evolving their shipping game. The unit is high quality and well built. It was easy to put together, and will say that these are some of their best instruction sets I've seen as well. This thing is sturdy, heavy, but easy to move around thanks to premium wheels and great handle. I love that I can store it out of the way without ruining the vinyl thanks to the upright UHMW protector. Another kudo to Rogue, they list the tools required to put together. One of the things that irked me greatly when I purchased my LP-2 was guessing which size hex wrenches (massive) I needed to purchase. It's pricey, but you get Made in the USA and high quality. I do recommend. I see this bench lasting a long time.

Best FID bench on the market
The bench is sturdy, quick to adjust, and the Thompson grip vinyl is as good as everyone says it is. It has every position that you could want, and it's rock solid in all of them. The foam rollers are light big and soft, and are the most comfortable that I have used. Because of the tight tolerance when installing the leg rollers there is no need for multiple screws to keep them from wiggling. The seat is short enough that it doesn't dig into your thighs when in the 30 degree position. Again making this a ladder adjustment bench for everything makes it so convenient, and there is NO wiggle in any of them. The gap is negligible for flat bench, and should never be an issue for most people because the back pad is long enough that your crack should never fall into the benches crack. I thought my REP ab5000 had a stiff pad, but this one makes my AB5000 feel squishy by comparison. I really liked my AB5000, but over time it became a chore to use, and found the zero gap feature to be useless because the back pad was long enough to never need it but I was forced to adjust it for every position. Plus the zero gap feature makes the seat too long, and uncomfortable in some positions. Decline bench press, and sit-ups is important to and the AB 5000 was the best option for a bench that did everything. I was hoping for a ladder style FID bench to come out and everything that the AB 5000 did, and the Mant does it better than I'd hoped. It's heavy, but easy enough because it's not too heavy in front, and the handle is located in a convenient position. Also the handle isn't plastic like I expected it to be, it's metal with a white Rogue logo on it. The look and feel of it in person next to my REP bench justifies the price, plus it's made here in the USA not outsourced to China. To recap super easy/quick to use, incredibly sturdy, every position that u could want, best leg rollers out there, best vinyl/padding, and looks fantastic doing it.
