KEY FEATURES OF THIS OHIO BAr

1

New 190,000 PSI Steel

This steel is manufactured in the US and has proven to be one of the best steel variants for a multi-purpose barbell. Each barbell shaft is ground and polished prior to machining which allows the bar to have a very smooth finish post any black oxide or black zinc finish.

Loading
2

Machining

Every bar shaft is machined in Columbus, Ohio. A great deal of pride is built into each bar as the knurling process is an art. We spent months working on the knurl we believe to be the best for the Ohio Bar. To test the knurl it is more a beer tasting process than exact measurement. There is a look and feel that go into testing every bar.

3

Fit and Finish

Each Ohio Bar finish offers a different level of oxidization protection and has a direct effect on the feel of the knurl.

Black Oxide is a mild oxidization protectant process. This type of steel treatment will still require some maintenance but will give the best knurl feel, more like a naked bar.

Zinc is a medium oxidization protectant process. This type of steel treatment requires minimal maintenance and is used on The Rogue and Bella Bars.

The Ohio Bar is also available in  Stainless Steel & an advanced ceramic-based coating called Cerakote.

Assembly

The Ohio Bar is assembled with bronze bushings which act as bearing surfaces between the bar sleeve and bar shaft. This is a very robust way of building a barbell. Each bar will come with an Ohio Bar card that has the initials of the Rogue team member that built the bar.

Performance

This bar will have normal “whip” during Olympic weightlifting and enough stiffness to hold for heavy powerlifting. The steel in this bar is proven as an excellent choice for weightlifters.

F SCALE™

The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.

OXIDATION RATE

The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.

*Warranty against bending does not cover any bar which has been damaged due to negligent or faulty use, alteration, maintenance, storage or handling by the user. Negligent or faulty use includes abusive dropping of the bar (i.e., dropping the bar on a box, bench, spotter arms or pins in a power rack, excessive dropping with insufficient or damaged bumpers, or excessive dropping with iron plates, and similar usage). Any specific issues regarding a Rogue product with which a customer is not satisfied will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We have found that most problems with bars we replace are related to abusive use rather than manufacturing or materials issues.

Whichever barbell finish you choose, Rogue has provided some helpful tips for long term Bar Care & Maintenance.

A Crafted Bar
Very few things are made in America with American sourced materials. This here exemplifies the old American artisan spirit. It is by far the best bar I have felt in my hands in my life. A well made tool that does what it was designed to do.

Hard to keep clean, poor coating of cerakote
The bar treated me right for a while but then chipped after I tried to clean it. I live in a humid climate (and have sweaty hands) so I use a decent amount of chalk. I would brush (using a nylon brush) the barbell and use oil on it every month or so. Eventually, the chalk build up was not going away and started to show signs of rust. I tried all different sorts of brushing but could never get the chalk or rust to fully go away. I finally resorted to soaking the shaft in a diluted white vinegar mixture. This was a bad idea as the cerakote began chipping away. This is surprising as white vinegar would not cause any damage to guns coated in cerakote but that's not the case with this weak coating of cerakote. Now I have parts of my barbell showing bare metal. The bar is fine if you don't ever use chalk. But if you do use chalk and don't clean it after every workout, eventually chalk and rust will build up and it is practically impossible to deeply clean it

Thank you for taking the time to post this! Here is what we recommend for keeping our bars clean: 1) Use a dry nylon bristle brush to remove the outer layer of chalk. 2) Wipe down the bar with a 3-in-One Oil and brush into the knurl with the nylon bristle brush. The steel will soak the oil in and the bar will stay healthy. 3) Wipe off any excess oil and chalk with a dry towel.

Best I’ve used.
I bought a cerakote Ohio bar and Olympic weight package and, wow. The quality and durability of the finish is great. The fit is perfect and they feel 100% secure with the rogue hg2.0 collars I bought as well. The shipping was fast and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. If you’re on the fence, buy it, it’s worth it.

BUYER BEWARE ON BLACK SLEEVES
I've owned multiple rouge barbells and currently am beyond satisfied with my chan bar w/ chrome sleeves. However if you purchase any rogue barbells with cerakote sleeves/proprietary matte black sleeves be prepared for them to get horribly scratched up with regular plate loading/unloading. Yes they look great out of box but within a couple months regular use they will be nearly unrecognizable. If keeping your barbell in pristine condition is important, highly recommend avoiding any of their black sleeve options and stick to chrome.

EXCELLENT BAR
I got tired of my old chrome bar peeling (actually slicing my leg doing deadlifts). GREAT upgrade and worth every nickel.

Plates difficult to put on/off
I bought the bar with the black ends 3 months ago and it’s been nothing but problems getting plates on/off the bar. There are little grooves on the ends of the bar, unlike a smooth chrome bar, and the plates catch on them. So, after a tough set I’m stuck holding a bar up for a long time struggling to wiggle plates off a little at a time. The bar looks cool, but I wish I had gone with the regular smooth chrome ends.

Thank you for your feedback! All of our sleeves - Chrome, Cerakote and Proprietary Matte Black will have these grooves. The Proprietary Matte Black metal treatment process also hardens the steel, which can cause some additional friction with plates that have a chamfer.

My favorite thing in my gym!
This is the nicest barbell I’ve ever touched. The cerakote finish is durable and feels amazing. The sleeves are just as nice. Knurling gives great grip without being too aggressive. Spin is great. It requires minimal maintenance. If you’re going to splurge on one thing for your gym, get the Ohio Bar!
