Rogue Pyrros Bar - Stainless Steel WL Bar
Certified by the International Weightlifting Federation

While developing a design for a new Olympic bearing bar, Rogue had the privilege of working with the most decorated weightlifter of all time, three-time Olympic gold medalist Pyrros Dimas. The Greek legend laid out everything he would look for in an ideal barbell—including (a) a slightly more aggressive knurl and (b) a more controlled spin that lets him feel connected to the weight throughout the lift. We provided him with bars made from different types of steel, multiple different knurl textures, and different sleeve lubricants. After lifting on all of them, he gave his feedback on each of the parameters, including which steel had the best whip. At the end of the day, we made a bar that combined all of his top picks. When we showed him what we’d come up with, his response was better than we could have imagined. “It's Perfect,” he said. “You should call it the Pyrros Bar.” And so we did.

The Pyrros Bar is now an official, IWF Certified barbell. The final design combines a stainless steel, 200,000 PSI tensile strength shaft with chrome plated sleeves and 10 quality needle bearings. The unique knurl texture was chosen unanimously by two members of the USA Weightlifting World Championship team, along with Pyrros himself, from a pool of six options. For the bearings, we selected a more viscous lubricant to create the controlled spin that Pyrros prefers.

In the strength world, IWF approval is like the equivalent of a restaurant getting its Michelin stars, so we’re proud to include a new IWF Cerakote logo on the shaft of the latest Pyrros Bar, along with additional IWF branding on the endcaps.

F Scale™
The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.

Oxidation Rate
The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.

Key Features of the Pyrros Bar:

  • 1Pyrros Customization

Achieving the right knurl texture and a controlled spin were essential to creating a Pyrros-approved barbell. For the knurling, we experimented with several patterns before choosing a new, more aggressive style unanimously selected by Pyrros and two members of the U.S.A. Weightlifting team (a center knurl was also included by request). Creating the perfect knurl is as much art as it is science, so after gauging, each shaft is manually tested to ensure that the "feel" meets Rogue's standards. Similar attention is paid to the bar's precision needle bearings, five sets of which are included in each chrome sleeve. While the bearings produce a smooth and reliable spin, the use of a more viscous lubricant produced the spin that Pyrros was looking for, ensuring better stability of the weight during heavier lifts and more control for the athlete.

  • 2The Difference of Stainless Steel

The Pyrros Oly Bar is made from a high-strength, stainless steel alloy, producing a shaft with a minimum tensile strength of 200,000 PSI. Personally selected by Pyrros and two members of the U.S.A. Weightlifting Team for its optimal "whip" and "flex," this stainless steel is the same type we originally developed for our world-record breaking Elephant Bar. With no plating, the knurl is left exactly how we machined it, providing a natural feel that is less reliant on chalk, with better corrosion resistance than bare steel. Please Note: Rogue recommends using a synthetic bristle brush, NOT a steel brush, to clean a stainless steel shaft. Steel on steel can cause rusting over time. See more tips here: Bar Care & Maintenance.

  • 3IWF Certified

The quality, precision engineering that goes into the Pyrros Bar has now been recognized at the highest levels of competition through its IWF certification. Each Pyrros Bar is machined in Columbus, Ohio (on American-made Haas machines) to strict IWF specs. The shaft is ground and polished prior to machining and individually tested and straightened to within 0.015” (0.38MM). Using a technique from automotive and aviation manufacturing, the sleeves are friction welded for a bond as strong as a single piece of steel, and then machined to our exacting standards. After machining, all parts are gauged to ensure optimum performance. In our barbell assembly department, the shaft is again tested and straightened and the components of each bar are weighed together. Once the weight standard of +20 grams/-10 grams is met, the bar is assembled by hand followed by an individual test for straightness and reliable spin.

  • 4A Legend's Input

A national hero in Greece, Pyrros Dimas owns three World Weightlifting Championships along with three gold medals from the 1992, 1996, and 2000 Olympic Games. He has few equals in the sport, so designing a barbell up to his standards was both a privilege and a great challenge. We’re proud to say we’ve produced a bar that Pyrros Dimas has personally called “perfect.”

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bar! Highly recommend. Lifting with this bar feels like you are training alongside with Pyrros himself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dang good bar I love this bar. I don't do much weightlifting (cleans/snatches) so I can't speak for its performance there. I primarily do strength workouts (deadlifts, barbell rows, press, squats) but have small hands and wanted a center knurl bar that was stainless steel. The knurl is tacky and not abrasive with the center knurl great for highbar squats. All around great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great construction I thought that the center knurling would be an issue but to be honest it isn't as rough as i had suspected. I bought the bar for my garage gym and i think it outperforms those at my work, ~$1200 Eleiko bars. By outperforms i mean the knurling is just right, the bar feels perfectly balanced, and it seems very "solid" with a quiet "thud" when hitting the floor. You know what they say, "If you buy nice you only have to buy once."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bar by far! Best barbell I've ever used! The quietest solid bar ever, so quiet on deadlift and drops, no rattles just thud. The controlled spin is phenomenal. Doesn't over spin and effect balance, good for light squat and brench to. I've got a rogue OPB 45 lbs and love it for power lifts but the Pyrros bar will work for that due to the controlled spin. In Snatch and Clean and jerk I had no problems getting under it with 100k on it. The knurl is perfect, I do have tough hands from powerlift and rock climbing though. I would not want anything with less knurl. The passive center knurl is perfect as well, enough for some catch but it's not going to rake you. All in all I think it is the best bar Rogue has available. Stainless steel is the way to go, Cerakote is great but it affects the knurl and it will eventually wear, especially if you use the bar in a rack. Really not a better choice. Euro is coated and the stainless wl lacks a center knurl. This bar is so solid, I just love using it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best Simply the best bar I have ever lifted with. Hit a snatch PR first time using it (because you have to max out when you get a new bar right?). The grip is perfect. Stainless steel is something I knew nothing about, but is well worth it. The spin is odd at first but is ultra smooth with the lifts and feels more stable and controlled than other weightlifting bars. Don't pay attention to older reviews that say the center knurling is too sharp - it’s far from the most aggressive center knurling I’ve used and is very appropriate for its given use. No doubt I would buy again but I don’t think I’ll need another bar for quite a long time. Well worth the price tag if you want the best.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! What an amazing barbell. I just got it last week but I've got to say this is an incredible barbell. The first thing I loved was the knurling which seems to suck my hands to the bar like a football to OBJ's large mitts. The center knurling is very passive so it won't rub your neck on front squats/ cleans. The barbell is also very quiet - hitting the floor with a muted thud; none of the clanging you get from lesser collars. A gentle tug on a plate gets a sleeve spinning at a consistent pace seemingly forever until you grab the weight again. The stainless steel is beautiful and will last out in my garage. It is hard to think of what could have been done better.
