LOW PROFILE SLEEVE DESIGN

Our matte black sleeve option uses a new, low-profile, sleeve design that makes loading and unloading plates easier than ever.  The precision-machined sleeve is then treated with our proprietary matte black process, significantly enhancing its resistance to corrosion and impact. This treatment ensures that the sleeves retain their appearance for a much longer duration compared to traditional sleeve finishes.

2X QUIETER PERFORMANCE

Refined with even stricter tolerances, precision-machined bronze bushings fit tighter around the shaft, and improved internal sleeve tolerances dampen sound and eliminate unwanted movement, ensuring a smoother and more stable lift.

How It's Made
1

FRICTION WELDING

The collars of the sleeves are friction welded, creating the strongest sleeves in the industry. This bond is as strong as if machined from a single piece of steel, while saving on waste and cost.

Rogue Work Hardening
2

Rogue Work Hardening

Our patented, proprietary process more than doubles the durability and lifespan of the barbell shaft compared to our competitors.

Proprietary Sleeve Finish
3

Proprietary Sleeve Finish

Our matte black sleeve option involves a new process that effectively transforms the surface of the steel rather than coating it. This transformation significantly enhances the sleeves’ corrosion resistance, impact resistance, and abrasion resistance.

State-of-the-art Gauging
4

State-of-the-art Gauging

We use gauging normally employed in the aerospace industry to ensure that every bar that makes it to a customer is exactly as designed.

Barbell Durability

RUST RESISTANCE

The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.

BARBELL DURABILITY

The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.

Loading

F SCALE™ APPLICATION

How a barbell is used will affect its durable lifespan and it's a key factor in determining what type of F Rating™ might be suitable for your gym's needs. This graph correlates the F Rating™ of a barbell with different types of usage in order to predict the durable lifespan. Using this data, we are able to make recommendations on what F Rating™ is appropriate for different training situations. With a rating of F10-R, the Ohio Bar is rated to last 16 years in a high volume CrossFit gym and will outlast a lifetime of lifting in an Olympic Weightlifting gym, a home gym or a Powerlifting gym.

Key Features of the Ohio Bar - Stainless Steel / Black:

200,000k PSI Steel
1

200,000k PSI Steel

This high tensile strength steel is manufactured in the USA and has proven to be one of the best steel variants for a multi-purpose barbell. Each barbell shaft is ground and polished prior to machining, allowing for a very smooth finish.

Machining
2

Machining

Every bar shaft is machined in Columbus, Ohio. A great deal of pride is built into each bar as the knurling process is an art. We spent months working on the knurl we believe to be the best for the Ohio Bar.

To test the knurl it is more a beer tasting process than exact measurement. There is a look and feel that go into testing every bar.

Look & Feel of Stainless Steel
3

Look & Feel of Stainless Steel

With no plating, the knurl on the Stainless Steel Ohio Bar is left exactly how we machined it, providing a great feel that cannot be achieved with other finishes. It’s similar to the knurl feel from a bare steel shaft, but with better corrosion resistance. The combination of a stainless steel shaft and chrome sleeves also creates a sharp look with few equals. Please Note: Rogue recommends using a synthetic bristle brush, NOT a steel brush, to clean a stainless steel shaft. Steel on steel can cause rusting over time. See more tips here: Bar Care & Maintenance.

Assembly
4

Assembly

The Ohio Bar is assembled with bronze bushings, which act as bearing surfaces between the bar sleeve and bar shaft. This is a very robust way of building a barbell, and can produce a smooth, consistent spin not possible with lesser import bars. Each bar comes with an “Ohio Bar Card” that has the initials of the Rogue team member that built it.

Performance
5

Performance

The multi-purpose Ohio Bar will have normal “whip” during Olympic weightlifting and enough stiffness to hold for heavy Powerlifting. The steel in this bar is proven as an excellent choice for weightlifters.

Love this bar!
Received this bar as a gift, after about a month of CrossFit use five - six days a week, I can say this bar is awesome. The stainless and black turns heads, the bare stainless grips like nothing else, you barely need to use chalk. The tighter tolerances on the sleeves really does make the bar feel more solid and it is quieter when dropped. Understand this is a bare metal bar and there will be machining marks visible on the metal, nothing hideous, but don't buy this expecting the nearly flawless finish on a high-end stainless kitchen appliance. The matte sleeves do scuff, however the scuffs reveal more black instead of bare metal like a typical coating. It's a barbell, not a museum piece, the scuffs won't impact your training.

Great bar, proprietary matte black finish is awful
Received my bar end of December and have been overall happy with it. Feels great to workout with, and looks great out of the factory. However, the proprietary matte black finish on the sleeves is awful and I wish I would’ve gone with something else. Less than a month after receiving the bar, there are obvious chips, corrosion, and rust spots on the bar. I chose the matte black finish because I thought it would make upkeep easier, however, I find myself oiling the bar after every use to prevent more rust spots from forming. And not to mention it is still winter here so the humidity has been down. Not looking forward to see what happens during the summer. TLDR: the Ohio Bar is great, just don’t get the matte black finish

Rogue Quality
I ordered a new Ohio Bar and what a beauty. I've used it for a couple months now and the fit and finish of it is exceptional, you can see it and feel it. I have several people that use my home gym and everyone likes this bar, so much so, I bought a second one!

Collars have too tight of tolerances
Picked this up during the matte Black Friday sale… looked great at first, but the black finish of the collars quickly got marred by my bumper plates. It’s also got very tight tolerances, making my plates very hard to load and unload. I had an old black oxide Ohio bar with chrome collars that was much easier to load, not sure if this new black finish is the cause of it.

My Number One Bar
I previously owned an Ohio Bar with Cerakote because it is used in my garage in the south with a lot of humidity, normal bars build rust. It worked to keep the rust away but the knurling was lacking. I was looking at the Aggro Power Bars but decided to give this one a try due to its Stainless Steel finish and being on sale for MBF. This bar has plenty of grip on the knurling, looks sharp, and won't rust because it is stainless!! I love this barbell and instead of having to buy several for multiple uses, this will be my Number One go to barbell for Crossfit, Olympic lifts, Power lifts, and whatever else!

Serial defect
I bought this bar and had high expectations for the stainless steel and "proprietary matte black" coating. The stainless steel shaft and knurling are awesome, unfortunately the sleeves are awful. They make it difficult to load/unload plates and are eating away at the bumper collars. There are metal shavings in the grooves of the sleeves every time a plate is loaded/unloaded. Rogue says this can be wiped off...great...how about the damage to the bumper plates or the poor user experience? After the horrible experience I found a lot of similar feedback online - I only wish I found it before the purchase. I contacted Rogue regarding the issues and they were totally unhelpful asking me measure the sleeve dimensions using a caliper and to send a picture. 1) Who has a caliper laying around? I should not need this when I buy a barbell to make sure it works properly. 2) Rogue has already had a ton of negative feedback regarding the product but still acts like the products are normal and has the audacity to ask for measurements. Obviously there could (is) be an issue outside of 1 product specification. 3) Rogue customer service points to a note on the product page about chamfered plates having an issues with the sleeve - really this should be a warning about fitment issues with any plates, every plate I have tried has a tight fit that damages the plates, which do not occur with any other bar. This is a serial defect which Rogue needs to address with its customers! Do not waste your money on the proprietary black sleeves.
