C-70S Bar
Rackable Short Bar as Seen at the CrossFit Games

The 15KG Rogue C-70S Barbell is essentially a “shorty” version of our 20KG Ohio Bar and a rackable version of our original C-70 short bar. Available here with a Cerakote shaft finish and chrome sleeves, this compact 72” design can benefit anyone training in tight quarters, be it a small garage gym or busy training facility, with nearly 15” of space-saving efficiency versus a full-length bar.

Like the Ohio Bar, the American-made C-70S features a 190,000 PSI steel shaft, dual knurl marks, quality composite bushings, and a standard 52” of spacing between the sleeves. The “S” in the bar’s name stands for “Snatch,” as the standard sleeve spacing enables athletes to perform these and other movements that would typically require a full-length barbell for proper hand placement. Case in point, we initially developed this style of bar for snatch events at the CrossFit Games, where compact competition lanes required a shorter bar

As an added benefit of its design, the C-70S can be racked conveniently on most standard power racks / squat stands. It should be noted, though, that the 8.875” of loadable sleeve length is roughly half that of the Ohio Bar (16.4”) and slightly less than the original non-rackable C-70 Bar (12”). There is no center knurl, and the Rogue logo is included in the center of the shaft as part of the Cerakote finish.

More on Cerakote
All of our Rogue C-70S Bars feature a Black Cerakote shaft finish. Widely used by firearm manufacturers for its durability in thin applications, this ceramic-based coating can offer superior abrasion, wear, and corrosion resistance over time—up to 100x that of traditional black zinc.

Game-Changing Rackability

As perhaps the biggest feature of its design, the C-70S can be racked conveniently on most standard power racks / squat stands, dramatically improving its functional benefits over most standard short bars. Additionally, while the sleeves are shorter on this model, the 52” of spacing between them is the same as a full-length barbell, allowing athletes to perform movements that haven’t traditionally been practical with short bars, such as the snatch and overhead squats. It should be noted that the 8.875” of loadable sleeve length is roughly half that of the Ohio Bar (16.4”) and slightly less than the original non-rackable C-70 Bar (12”). There is no center knurl, and the Rogue logo is included in the center of the shaft as part of the Cerakote finish.

A History Tied to the CrossFit Games

The “S” in the bar’s name literally stands for “Snatch,” and refers to its origins at the 2014 CrossFit Games, when narrow competition lanes in the snatch event required a new type of short bar design. The standard width between sleeves gave the feel of a normal barbell, but the shorter sleeves allowed for athletes to work in much closer proximity to each other while also maximizing the number of athletes per heat. The C-70S would ultimately be used at each subsequent CrossFit Games for six years running.

3

Space-Saving Efficiency

The advantages of a short bar go well beyond competition lanes. In large gyms, the design of the C-70S allows more athletes to train simultaneously, and in a cramped garage gym, the shorter shaft (72” vs the 86.75” of a full-length Ohio Bar) enables full Olympic lifting movements—including proper hand placement on the snatch grip—with more room to spare and easier storage between workouts.

4

F16-R Durability Rating

Like the full-length Ohio Bar, the C-70S is manufactured in the USA and equipped with dual knurl marks, quality composite bushings, and a 28.5mm, 190,000 PSI tensile strength steel shaft. Each shaft is treated with our exclusive Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) process for superior fatigue resistance. With its short sleeves, there is also significantly less stress put on the shaft on each drop. As a result, the C-70s scores a rating of F16-R in F-Scale durability testing, the highest mark of any barbell we’ve tested.

5

Cerakote Shaft Finish

All of our Rogue C-70S Bars feature a Black Cerakote shaft finish. Widely used by firearm manufacturers for its durability in thin applications, this ceramic-based coating can offer superior abrasion, wear, and corrosion resistance over time—up to 100x that of traditional black zinc.

F SCALE™

The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.

OXIDATION RATE

The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.

*Warranty against bending does not cover any bar which has been damaged due to negligent or faulty use, alteration, maintenance, storage or handling by the user. Negligent or faulty use includes abusive dropping of the bar (i.e., dropping the bar on a box, bench, spotter arms or pins in a power rack, excessive dropping with insufficient or damaged bumpers, or excessive dropping with iron plates, and similar usage). Any specific issues regarding a Rogue product with which a customer is not satisfied will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We have found that most problems with bars we replace are related to abusive use rather than manufacturing or materials issues.

Wow! This bar is PERFECT for tight spaces
In my basement I do not have much space between the rack and I was using the standard Rogue Ohio Power Bar… I struggled to not damage the rack, hit the walls, etc. now I am in love with this C70S bar! The feel is very similar and the weight it stands for is more than what I think I will use. I have been waiting for this bar for three years and now is here. Obviously I sold the other Ohio.

Not warrantied
Love the bar, but…. bought in January 2022. After 5 months of single person indoor use the paint on the endcaps is nearly completely chipped away. Only used 3 in 1 oil as recommended. Contacted rogue to have the caps replaced and they refuse. So your lifetime warranty really doesn’t mean what it says.

Perfect for tight spaces...
My gym set up is in a small spare bedroom. I purchased this bar primarily for the tight space. Much easier to load weights without having to squeeze in between the walls and the end of a standard bar. Feel is much like my Ohio bar. Love it!!

GREAT POWERLIFTING & OLYMPIC BAR!!
I love Rogue and own a lot of bars. I'm lifting now 5 years and getting into the Olympic lifts now. Fast spinning bars are important to reduce wrist torque during the fast movements. Bronze bushings are NOT AT ALL SUITABLE for this purpose in my experience. This bar has composite bushings which are a HUGE step above in terms of rotation but also grip a little when you want. For powerlfting you don't want too much spin. It makes you feel unstable at times but this bar still feels good during slow movements as well as fast. Watch the video. Look how quickly the plate stops when spinning slow. It's amazing how long it goes spinning fast. You feel some grip when benching but during fast movements it's like "butta"! This bar feels fantastic during all movements. The knurling is a little more aggressive than the Ohio bar and the smooth center is much appreciated during the snatch stomach tap. ***Bar is 32lb because in competition with specific collars it's 15kg (aprox.33 lb) exactly so I use 1lb plates and collars that are half lb each to make exactly 35lbs..***

Shorty bar for tight quarters
I have to do with tight quarters and so I needed a 6' barbell. Finally decided to splurge on the Rogue C-70S because life is short, try and surround yourself with stuff of quality. I'm surprised it has so few reviews out there on youtube and elsewhere, I think the C-70S is the obvious choice if you need a quality shorty bar.

awesome compact bar - finish not quite perfect
Awesome compact bar - perfect for lifts with limited space - and the cerakote feels great! The only issue i had in the beginning, was an extremely bad spinning of the sleeves (compared with my other 2 Ohio Bars). The spin was always jamming a lot on both sides - also when loaded with plates. I almost reclaimed this bad finish, then managed it to solve the problem by sanding some cerakoting (three times) on the shaft-area under the sleeves. Now they spin perfect and i am very happy training almost daily with the C-70S. Maybe it was just a bit of bad luck, but eventually Rogue also chould check the finish better ;)
