Westside Anterior Chain Developer
Westside Barbell’s Anterior Chain Developer works as a complement to their Inverse Curl Machine, with a focus on the muscles of the hips, core, and quads rather than the hamstrings. The heavy-duty device is adjustable to athletes of most sizes and skill levels, offering assistance through a customized version of the “sissy squat” movement. It can also be set up as a useful rehab machine for athletes who've had issues with the quadriceps or hip flexors, offering the opportunity to gradually build up strength to those areas.
Westside’s resident strength legend Louie Simmons notes that the Anterior Chain Developer is especially effective for stretching and lengthening the iliopsoas (inner hip muscle), which can cause pelvic tilt, and is often the hidden culprit for certain lower back problems.
The Anterior Chain Developer is built from 3x2” 11-gauge steel and weighs in at a robust 290 LBS. The user leans their back against a padded lever arm with 17 adjustable starting positions, while placing their feet on a diamond-tread footplate; the lower body is stabilized by a cushioned foot roller pad and calf pad. Standard plates can be added to the machine’s multiple weight posts to create a varying weight counterbalance, increasing or decreasing the level of assistance provided during the movement.
