Annie Thorisdottir

After making her competitive CrossFit debut as a 20 year-old in 2010, Rogue athlete Annie Thorisdottir quickly earned the nickname “Thor’s Daughter”—not just as a play on her last name, but as a description of her otherworldly athleticism. In the years that followed, she earned a new title, “Fittest Woman on Earth,” as her first place finishes at the 2011 and 2012 CrossFit Games made her the event’s first two-time Women’s Champion.

Thorisdottir was born in Reykjavik, Iceland, where she trained in gymnastics for nearly a decade and developed added skills in ballet dancing and pole vaulting. Since taking up CrossFit, she routinely dominated the women’s European Regionals and reached the podium at the Games in each of her first four appearances. After a major injury forced her out of competition in 2013, she still bounced back to take 2nd Place at the Games the following summer, and added two more Top 5 finishes to her resume in 2017 and 2018.

Thorisdottir’s most inspiring performances of all, however, may have come in the past two years. After having her first child and leaving the sport for a time, Annie returned to the Games, a month shy of her 32nd birthday, and put forth a remarkable, emotional performance, finishing third overall. She then gave Tia Toomey a serious challenge at the Rogue Invitational in Austin, Texas, finishing a close runner-up. Returning to individual competition at the 2022 Invitational, Annie proved she is still among the world’s most formidable athletes. Across four days, she battled Laura Horvath right down to the wire and took the podium as runner-up once more; standing out in a field in which some competitors were nearly half her age.

Annie co-owns an Affiliate in Reykjavik and coaches other athletes in her spare time. In 2018, she appeared in the Rogue documentary Fullsterkur, talking about the culture and tradition of strength athletes in her native Iceland. She also published a children’s book in 2022, with fellow Icelandic CrossFitter Katrin Davidsdottir, called What Is The Way? Annie’s line of exclusive products in the Rogue Signature Series includes the “DOTTIR” and “Annie Strength” shirt and tank.
