Rogue B&R Bar 2.0

The Classic, Bare Steel Burgener & Rippetoe Bar, Now Made in Columbus

Version 2.0 of the B&R Bar is built to the specifications of the bar’s original designers—strength training coaches Mike Burgener and Mark Rippetoe—with some enhancements from Rogue’s in-house manufacturing team. Along with custom-tailored dual knurl marks for Olympic lifting and powerlifting (including a passive center knurl), the bar now features a stronger 205,000 PSI shaft and an updated snap ring design. Quality bronze bushings produce a smooth, reliable spin, and the natural steel creates a great, old-school look and feel that few chrome/plated finishes can compete with.

The B&R 2.0 is a 20KG barbell with 16.25" of loadable sleeve length. Because of its versatility, it’s a great addition to a garage gym or a larger training facility or CrossFit box.

Please Note: Like any fine piece of machined steel, the bare steel on the B&R Bar will require some upkeep. Occasionally brushing the bar down with 3-in-1 oil or WD-40 will create a beautiful patina look. This is how bars were made for decades and it really does produce an unmatched feel.

F Scale™
The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.

Oxidation Rate
The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.

Rogue B&R Bar 2.0 is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 56.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from It’s all I could get. I did not want the center knurl. I put tape on the knurl to make it work. This was the only 45 lb barbel that was available at time of order. I was lucky to get a barbel at the time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bar! I bought this bar after the gyms closed so I could work out at home. Knurling provides excellent grip, better than what I have found in most commercial gyms. No whip during power cleans as advertised. This bar is one of the best I've had the good fortune to lay hands on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable I've had the bar for 4 years now, and it has been perfect. Use it for powerlifting, strength training, and even doing some olympic lifts, and it hasn't disappointed. If you are looking for a bar that is reliable, durable, and performs great, then this is the bar for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Bar at a moderate price Bought for my basement gym. Stiff, quality bar. Use primarily for squats and floor press/bench. I press overhead with an axle. Worlds better than commercial gym bars. Only complaint I have is the knurling isnt as aggressive as Id like, even with high rep sets, but thats personal preference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great feeling bar. I wanted a 29mm bar without the aggressive knurl for overhead pressing and bench work. Up to now I have used the 45# power bar and Castro bar this is like their offspring same knurl as the Castro bar with the center knurl and stiffness of the power bar. Perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All around bar I use this for squats, deadlifts, presses and cleans. Really like the bare steel for the knurling. It arrived perfectly straight both the sleeves spin equally and no rust or imperfections.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to our gym! Always wanted a B&R bar and now we have three. Clients love the bars!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great knurling, good sleeve spin I bought this bar as a Black Friday deal, and I have been using it as my primary bar ever since. Previously, I was using a Troy AOB-1500 bar. The knurling on the B&R is finer and more aggressive than the Troy. The Troy's knurling is much more coarse but not as aggressive (it doesn't stick to my hand as well). I like this about the B&R. Even though the B&R has a slightly wider diameter, 29mm vs. 28.5mm as measured by a caliper, it is easier to hold onto with deadlifts. With the above said, I would however caution that the center knurling is much more scratchy than the Troy bar. I agree with the sandpaper analogy with the B&R. I don't do a lot of olympic lifts, but when I do, I plan to use the Troy more often even though the sleeves spin much better on the B&R. However, I haven't done a real good comparison of this yet so take that for what it is. The Troy's spin may just be a consequence of needing to be disassembled, cleaned, and re-greased/oiled. Lastly, others have mentioned that the B&R sleeves are like a "file" to their iron. I was worried about this as I was afraid it would be like the super cheap fitness gear bar I first bought as a package with fitness gear iron. That fitness gear bar literally left metal shavings on the bar that would get stuck in my hand if I ever touched the sleeves. This B&R bar is nothing like that. It does scrape fine dust of paint off my iron (I just recently bought Troy Premium Deep Dish Plates). However, after a couple of months of use, I no longer notice this anymore. I personally do not find the sleeves an issue at all, and they should smooth out even more with use.
