Westside Scout Hyper
Folding Reverse Hyper Machine

"I do hypers before and after I squat or deadlift." - Louie Simmons

The Scout Hyper is a patented, foldable reverse-hyper machine developed by powerlifting legend Louie Simmons and Westside Barbell. This uniquely lightweight and mobile design features hinging legs that lock into place with pop pins and easily fold back for efficient storage after use (the total depth of the unit, when folded, is just 13”).

Louie Simmons created this model with home, work, and light clinical use in mind—with particular benefits for younger athletes or those new to reverse hyper training. The unit comes standard with a durable, round-edge pad (27.5” wide x 21.5” deep x 2” thick) to limit friction against the hips, as well as a nylon webbing hyper strap, two weight posts (5.25” loadable length), a set of spring collars, and 6” long handles. A bolt-on handle extension kit is also available a la carte for users who need to accommodate a shorter distance from the end of the pad to the handles.

The Scout Hyper comes with rubber feet (to provide grip to the floor and help keep the unit level) and a rubber-covered step for safe mounting and dismounting. When a workout is complete, the user simply has to (1) pull out and spin the pop pins to unlock the unit, (2) tip the machine up while pushing on the horizontal rear leg crossmember, and (3) press down on the handles to complete the folding process. Please Note: The unit stands up by itself when folded, but we do recommend either storing it flat on the ground or, if storing it upright, to do so against a wall and out of the reach of children.

Key Features of the Scout Hyper

  • 1Patented Foldable Design

Whether you train in a small garage gym or a large-scale facility, space efficiency always counts. The Westside Scout Hyper offers storage convenience with its patented groove folding mechanism, collapsing down to a depth of just 13” when stowed. It’s also considerably lighter and more portable than most traditional Reverse Hyper machines, making it easy to move, unfold, and lock-in before each use.

  • 2Unique Training Benefits

Regular use of the Scout Hyper can provide safe traction, pressure/tension relief in the lower back, and strengthening of the posterior chain. “We spend hours sitting or standing at home, work or at school,” Louie Simmons says. “These simple yet everyday occurrences place significant pressure and torsion on our lumbar spine leading to mild or even severe daily discomfort. That's where the Scout steps in. A daily prescription of three to five sets of 15 reps on this machine could be the difference from painful to pain-free lumbar health.”

  • 3Assembly & Safety

User assembly is required with this unit, but should take less than 30 mins. All required hardware is included. Rubber feet are provided for improved stability, and a rubber covering on the step makes it easier to get on and off of the machine. Please BE CAUTIOUS when folding and unfolding the Scout, and be aware of pinch points. If the red marking on the pop pin shaft is visible then the pin is NOT fully seated. Periodically check that the pop pin and swing-arm bolts are tight on both sides of the machine, as well as the bolt that secures the hyper strap.

Westside Scout Hyper is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Home Gyms I've wanted one of these for a while but never had space. I thought about making my own until I saw the Scout. I bought it instantly when I saw it was available. It works perfect and feels very stable. The best part about the Scout is that I can fold it up and keep it out of the way. The only thing I would 'complain' about is that the extension handles should come with the product and not an 'add-on' feature.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from All you need for home gym This this is is awesome. Definitely a must have for garage gyms. Well built. Feedback to Westside: Please add a step up peg to the left side of the Hyper as well. When doing single leg movements this would be great to have. Also a spot to add weights on the front legs to hold down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for a home gym After dealing with lower back pain on and off for the past 2 years, I been wanting a reverse hyper for quite some time but i was hesitant to pull the trigger due the amount of space it takes and the price. When rogue announced a foldable design reverse hyper, it was a no-brainer that I had to get it. Quality wise, it what you expect from rogue. It has a clean look and feels very durable like most of their products. So far i have put about 200 lbs and I have no problem so far. Setup was very very easy which only took less than 30 mins. The folding mechanism could take a little to get use to but a breeze when you get it. Honestly with the amount of space it barely takes I just leave mine standing. This has probably been one of the best purchases I made for my home gym. The price And the amount of space it takes is perfect. Oh and my lower back appreciates it even more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Low back is woke I’m 5’10 and it stands about upper abs/low chest high. Handles are great, however if you’re shorter you MAY need the extra handles. I would say this is equipment is more for “maintenance” on your lower back than using it to max out on. Reviews online says it rocks back and forth, however I haven’t experienced that when controlling the lift. Pad is firm and has a similar feel to my Rogue flat utility bench. Con: Bolt at end of pendulum protrudes and rubbed my bumper plate. Great tool for lower back - for those that do many Oly lifts, squats, deadlifts, sandbags, or anything that requires picking weights off the floor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lives up to the Hype(r) Never used a reverse hyper before I bought the Scout and I have only had it a few days so keep that in mind. Here's my feedback. PROs: Delivery was quick Well packaged, clear assembly instructions (30 minutes to assemble) Unit is sturdy, well made and finished Setting up/taking down takes 30 sec tops once you've done it a couple of times Action is smooth and standard handles are fine for me (I am 5'11") Using the pendulum with standard diameter bumpers was workable (did not bang my shins) It can be used for other exercises (leg curls, leg extensions, pull throughs etc) CONs: A step on on the left side for the nonworking leg would be nice for single leg reverse hypers Only 5.25" of loadable space on each side of the pendulum so may be a limitation for some people depending on strength, training focus, and plate thickness.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid I ordered on 9/4 and received on 9/8. I built it today 9/8 and did a couple of sets. This thing is solid and has a relatively small footprint. I'm 6'3" and my concern was that I might be too tall for this machine, but that is not the case. It took me about 30 minutes to put together. After one day, I'm happy with this reverse hyper. Great job, all!
