WESTSIDE SCOUT HYPER
FOLDING REVERSE HYPER MACHINE

"I do hypers before and after I squat or deadlift." - Louie Simmons

The Scout Hyper is a patented, foldable reverse-hyper machine developed by powerlifting legend Louie Simmons and Westside Barbell. This uniquely lightweight and mobile design features hinging legs that lock into place with pop pins and easily fold back for efficient storage after use (the total depth of the unit, when folded, is just 13”).

Louie Simmons created this model with home, work, and light clinical use in mind—with particular benefits for younger athletes or those new to reverse hyper training. The unit comes standard with a durable, round-edge pad (27.5” wide x 21.5” deep x 2” thick) to limit friction against the hips, as well as a nylon webbing hyper strap, two weight posts (5.25” loadable length), a set of spring collars, and 6” long handles. A bolt-on handle extension kit is also available a la carte for users who need to accommodate a shorter distance from the end of the pad to the handles.

The Scout Hyper comes with rubber feet (to provide grip to the floor and help keep the unit level) and a rubber-covered step for safe mounting and dismounting. When a workout is complete, the user simply has to (1) pull out and spin the pop pins to unlock the unit, (2) tip the machine up while pushing on the horizontal rear leg crossmember, and (3) press down on the handles to complete the folding process. Please Note: The unit stands up by itself when folded, but we do recommend either storing it flat on the ground or if storing it upright, doing so against a wall and out of the reach of children.

Please Note: The unit stands up by itself when folded, but we do recommend either storing it flat on the ground or, if storing it upright, to do so against a wall and out of the reach of children.

KEY FEATURES OF THE SCOUT HYPER

Loading
1

PATENTED FOLDABLE DESIGN

Whether you train in a small garage gym or a large-scale facility, space efficiency always counts. The Westside Scout Hyper offers storage convenience with its patented groove folding mechanism, collapsing down to a depth of just 13” when stowed. It’s also considerably lighter and more portable than most traditional Reverse Hyper machines, making it easy to move, unfold, and lock-in before each use.

2

UNIQUE TRAINING BENEFITS

Regular use of the Scout Hyper can provide safe traction, pressure/tension relief in the lower back, and strengthening of the posterior chain. “We spend hours sitting or standing at home, work or at school,” Louie Simmons says. “These simple yet everyday occurrences place significant pressure and torsion on our lumbar spine leading to mild or even severe daily discomfort. That's where the Scout steps in. A daily prescription of three to five sets of 15 reps on this machine could be the difference from painful to pain-free lumbar health.”

ASSEMBLY & SAFETY

User assembly is required with this unit, but should take less than 30 mins. All required hardware is included. Rubber feet are provided for improved stability, and a rubber covering on the step makes it easier to get on and off of the machine. Please BE CAUTIOUS when folding and unfolding the Scout, and be aware of pinch points. If the red marking on the pop pin shaft is visible then the pin is NOT fully seated. Periodically check that the pop pin and swing-arm bolts are tight on both sides of the machine, as well as the bolt that secures the hyper strap.

Great piece to add to the gym garage.
Has really helped me with weaknesses I didn't even know I had. I feel so much stronger with all my squats and deadlifts. It does kick up but a sand bag draped over the front cross bar helps a lot. A little bit of a pain to move around but worth it.

Excellent value for money
I've been a user of this device for more than a month. I think it's sturdy, relatively stable. When used with weights above 80kg I just place 20kg/45lb plates against the legs on the other side of the hyper as otherwise they would lift slightly. I have also seen sandbags being placed on that horizontal bar which I think would work even better - but I don't have any at my disposal. I love that it's foldable. My entire gym, reverse hyper included, takes less than 2m2 / 20sqft when folded. Really great deal for the price. I also like the fact shipping costs have dropped significiantly within the EU, which prompted my purchase. One piece of DIY advice I have is, secure the weight holds against iron plates as they eat into the plastic easily. I just bought sheets of 0.5mm (1/4 inch) aluminium and glued that around the holds. 51mm plates still fit, although the part-of-the-package clamps no longer do (it's not an issue, I just use my barbell ones instead). I hope that prolongs the mileage of my baby.

Good, not great?
Have had for about 4 months, do it twice a week on my squat and deadlift days. 4 sets of 15 reps with top set being 50% of my 1 RPM of squat. Hasn’t really increased my squat or deadlift max but the “clicking” sound in my lower back seems to have disappeared after about 2 months of use. So while I was hoping to see miracle gains (which didn’t happen) it seems to be doing something to improve my overall back health. Let me also add that I haven’t had any issues with the bolt rubbing against my bumper or calibrated plates. Maybe this was a design improvement with v2 model I have? The end cap to the weight holder is already coming off though. Not a huge deal but kinda annoying based on my expectations of Rogue quality.

Garage Gym Must Have
I purchased this unit a while back and had my reservations about it. After multiple uses I can safely say this is a MUST HAVE for any serious garage gym owner. I have only collapsed it a couple times because I just leave it out to use with every workout. Not only is it excellent for the intended function but it can be used for rowing, lie down and do triceps with it, lay on top backwards and perform face pulls, etc. It's an indispensable part of my garage gym!

As advertised
I have had intermittent low back issues. I’ve been using this machine almost daily for high reps and as part of my warm up. It’s been great! I haven’t had any back issues since purchasing. It’s been a great addition to my injury prevention exercises. It also doesn’t take up much space and was easy to put together.
