Product Description

The MG-4F is the latest evolution of the Rogue specialty multi-grip barbell. Available here with a flat steel frame (a Camber version is sold separately), this patent pending design now comes standard with three distinct sets of adjustable handles: 10-degree angle,, 14-degree angle, and 18-degree angle.

All handles measure 28.5mm in diameter and include our premium Proprietary Matte Black finish and the same precision knurl pattern as our Ohio Bars. They can be attached to the frame of the MG-4F Bar at 2-inch intervals, meaning that a set of handles can be functionally spaced anywhere from a minimum of 6” to a maximum of 26” apart. This enables athletes to customize their bar for multiple movements—from close grip presses and triceps work to biomechanically optimized grips at shoulder-width and beyond. Better still, our durable Proprietary Matte Black finish doesn’t add any thickness when applied, so the feel of the handles is left exactly as it was straight out of the lathe.

The MG-4F’s friction welded sleeves also have a Proprietary Matte Black finish, and are built with the same internal components as our standard barbells, rotating smoothly on shafts made from the same stainless steel as our power bars. Each sleeve offers 15.5” of loadable length, and with a standard sleeve spacing of 51.5”, the MG-4F is conveniently rackable on any Rogue power rack, squat stand, rig, or bench

The MG-4F is the latest evolution of the Rogue specialty multi-grip barbell. Available here with a flat steel frame (a Camber version is sold separately), this patent pending design now comes standard with three distinct sets of adjustable handles: 10-degree angle,  14-degree angle, and 18-degree angle.

The MG-4F’s friction welded sleeves also have a Proprietary Matte Black finish, and are built with the same internal components as our standard barbells, rotating smoothly on shafts made from the same stainless steel as our power bars. Each sleeve offers 15.5” of loadable length, and with a standard sleeve spacing of 51.5”, the MG-4F is conveniently rackable on any Rogue power rack, squat stand, rig, or bench.

The 41” frame portion of the bar has been improved with this model, as well; built from 1.5” x 1.5” 11-gauge steel tubing with 1/4” plates, a machined socket, and a Texture Black powder coat finish. The sleeves are assembled to the shafts by our barbell assembly team, but to save on shipping costs, we developed a unique interlocking taper design that allows for easy assembly with a single nut using the included wrench. The joint created by this interlocking taper is every bit as strong as a weld, and will hold up to whatever an athlete throws at it. Even after the nut is removed, it takes a lot of force with a mallet to free the shaft from the socket.

IMPORTANT: The MG-4F Bar ships with the sleeve assemblies disconnected from the frame, but all required hardware and tools for assembly are provided, including a set of 5/16” allen keys + 1/2” x 2-½” button heads bolts for the handles and a 1.5” Monster Wrench for securing the sleeve to the frame. The bolt finish will match your selected sleeve finish.

Key Features of the MG-4 Flat Multi-Grip Bar

Adjustable Knurled Handles
1

Adjustable Knurled Handles

The MG-4F comes standard with (6) removable knurled grip handles (28.5mm outside diameter) in a Proprietary Matte Black finish. With their threaded design, these handles can be positioned anywhere along the bar’s 41” long frame, using the included allen keys for attachment. Functional spacing options range from a minimum or 6” to a max of 26”. Keep in mind, the ideal biomechanical angle for an efficient, safe lift expands as the handles move further apart. Rogue recommends the following handle spacing for Angled Handles when pressing:

20-degree: 26" or 22" spacing
16 degree: 18" or 14" spacing
Straight: 10" or 6" spacing

Additional configurations may work for other movements, as closely spaced angled handles may work well for skull crushers for many athletes.

Rackable Sleeves
2

Rackable Sleeves

Offering a standard loadable length of 15.5”, the sleeves on the MG-4F are built using the same construction methods and components as our Rogue Power Bar, resulting in a consistent, smooth rotation. The standard sleeve spacing (51.5”) makes the bar conveniently rackable on most standard rigs/racks, and the Proprietary Matte Black finish helps eliminate paint chipping and maximizes long-term corrosion resistance.
Please Note: The sleeve assemblies ship disconnected from the frame and can be attached using the included 1.5” Monster Wrench. They can also be removed and replaced, but removal will require additional tools (such as a rubber mallet) and a means of securing the frame in place.

Quality Frame Construction
3

Quality Frame Construction

The frame portion of the bar is built from 1.5” x 1.5” 11-gauge steel tubing with 1/4” laser-cut plates and a machined socket. Mounting holes for the handles are 2” on center all along the sides, and the frame is finished in a Texture Black powder coat.

Interlocking Taper Design and Machined Nut
4

Interlocking Taper Design and Machined Nut

The shaft of the sleeve connects to the frame using an interlocking taper; a staple of the machine tool industry for more than a century. The conical shape of the shaft is inserted into a conical cylinder that, when tightened with the machined hex nut, creates an extremely rigid joint.

A bargain!
I consider this an excellent purchase at this price point ($250). Would be nice if the thicker handles came standard, but I appreciate the fact that Rogue includes six handles standard. I find the stability just fine with this flat multi grip bar. Overhead press is more comfortable to me, even though it’s a wide bar to clear. Use it for curls, bench and tricep extensions as well. All in all, a purchase with no regrets.

Good change up
Well built - worth the money (especially on closeout) - allows you train the bench heavy without wear and tear on your shoulders. I work out with a 4 men ages 21-60, bodyweight ranges from 165-235. I followed Rogues recommendation for the most universal fit on the handles , and it fit us perfect.

Couldn’t be happier!
I just received my MG-4F and I couldn’t be happier with it. The adjustable handles make the bar very versatile. The width and angle of the handles are perfect for my grip. With a shoulder injury and persistent pain I can now bench press without much discomfort. I have another multi grip bar from another company with fixed handles - not bad but the grip width was not right for me and probably made my shoulder problem worse. Everything about this bar is high quality and what you’d expect from Rogue. The bar was delivered promptly and in perfect shape. I should say I received a two pair of 16° angle handles but no 20° handles. I contacted Rogue and they probably sent another pair. I really appreciate their customer service. I know this review is a little effusive, but it’s not often you purchase some thing that works out just right. Overall a great product and great experience.

Rogue quality, highly customizable
I've had this bar for about 2 months. This was actually the first Rogue item I'd purchased at the time. Impressive quality. Well balanced. Heavy. Included tools needed to build is an excellent touch. Please keep doing that or provide tools a la carte as an option to folks. I have the straight, 16 degree, and 20 degree handles. 16 and 20 degree handles are really similar. I don't know squat about optimal angles but I'd like to have had an 8, 16, and 24 for more obvious variation. The ability to swap between various grips on one bar is awesome. I think it's very advantageous compared to the welded multi grip bars if the welded bars don't support a configuration you prefer. The handles are adjustable, but they're not exactly hot swappable. That being said, aside from the knurled handles, I don't see much advantage to this bar over a welded bar if you're going to set it up the exact same way except if you don't like your grips, it's $45 each to change your mind instead of a new bar. I originally purchased this with the included straight handles and an extra 16 degree. Later I purchased a 20 degree just to add on and fill it out. I am ashamed to say I spent nearly an hour trying to force the 20 degree handles in, was convinced it was a manufacturing defect, and rage quit. The next day I thought I'd give it one more try before talking to support, loosened the existing handles, and installed the 3rd pair in under 2 minutes. Installation was easier when I realized that bolting the handles in actually draws the frame of the bar towards the center. Due to the width of the frame, anyone with a 47" wide rack might want to be mindful that this is a bit wide and the black frame can fairly easily scuff your rack. I don't think the 49" wide racks would have this issue.

Poor QC on grip handles
I ordered this bar and added on the 16 and 20 degree grip handles. After tightening everything down as tight as they can be tightened there is still a noticeable gap between one of the 20 degree grips and the frame of the bar. After loosening and swapping the position of the 20 degree grips the gap remained so I measured the length of the 20 degree grips and one of them is over 1/16” shorter than the other leaving this gap. I’d expect tighter tolerances than this for a bar of this price.
